Learn how to use the easy-access USB printing feature to quickly print files without sending them from a computer. The printer accepts standard USB flash drives in the easy-access USB port that is located near the printer control panel.
The following file types are supported when printing from a USB flash drive:
.prn
.pcl
.ps
.cht
The steps to print from a USB flash drive vary depending on the type of control panel on the printer.
FutureSmart 3 control panels
FutureSmart 4 or 5 control panels
Find the section below for your control-panel type and then follow the steps to print from a USB flash drive.
Follow these steps if your printer has a FutureSmart 3 control panel.
FutureSmart 3 control panels
Before you can use the walk-up USB printing feature, you must first enable the USB port on the printer.
There are two methods for enabling the USB port on the printer: (1) by using the printer control panel, or (2) by using the Embedded Web Server (EWS), which is available for network-connected printers only.
Choose which method to use and then follow the steps provided to enable the USB port.
Use this method to enable the USB port from the printer control panel.
From the Home screen on the printer control panel, open the Administration menu.
Select the General Settings menu, and then select the Enable Retrieve from USB option.
Select Enabled, and then touch Save or press the OK button to save the setting.
Use this method to enable the USB port in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
To access the EWS, you will need the printer's IP address. You can obtain the printer's IP address on the printer control panel.
Follow these steps to obtain the printer's IP address and then access the EWS and enable the USB port.
Obtain the printer's IP address:
4-line LCD control panel: View the Home screen on the printer control panel to see the IP address.
Touchscreen control panel: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Network button to display the IP address or host name.
Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS):
On your computer, open a Web browser, and in the address bar, type the IP address or host name exactly as it displayed on the printer control panel.

Press Enter on the computer keyboard.
If the browser displays a message indicating that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue to the website. Accessing the website will not harm the computer.
The EWS opens.
On the EWS Home page, click the Print tab.
In the left navigation pane, click Retrieve from USB Setup.
Select the check box next to Enable Retrieve from USB.
Click Apply to save the setting.
After enabling the USB port, follow these steps to print from a USB flash drive.
Insert the USB flash drive into the easy-access USB port on the front of the printer, and then wait until the printer detects the flash drive.
The port might be covered. For some printers, the cover flips open. For other printers, pull the cover straight out to remove it.
Touch or press the OK button to access the drive, or, if prompted, select the Retrieve from USB option from the list of available applications.
The Retrieve from USB screen opens.
Select the name of the file that you want to print.
If the file is stored in a folder, select the folder first, and then locate and select the file.
To adjust the number of copies, select Copies, and then use the keypad to change the number of copies.
Touch the Start button or press the OK button to print the document.
Follow these steps if your printer has a FutureSmart 4 or 5 control panel.
FutureSmart 4 or 5 control panels

Keypad control panels: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press the Information button , then use the arrow keys to select the Ethernet menu. Press the OK button to open the menu and view the IP address or host name.
Touchscreen control panel: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Information icon , and then touch the Network icon
to display the IP address or host name.

Find your printer control-type in the options below and then follow the steps provided.

Insert the USB flash drive into the easy-access USB port.
The port might be covered. For some printers, the cover flips open. For other printers, pull the cover straight out to remove it.
From the Home screen on the printer control panel, select Print, and then select USB Drive.
Select Choose, and then select the file to print.
If the file is stored in a folder, select the folder first, and then select the file to print.
To adjust the number of copies, select the field for the number of copies, and then use the keypad to enter the number of copies to print.
Press the Start button on the keypad to print the document.
Follow these steps if your printer has a touchscreen control panel.
Insert the USB flash drive into the easy-access USB port.
The port might be covered. For some printers, the cover flips open. For other printers, pull the cover straight out to remove it.
From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch Print, and then touch Print from USB Drive.
Touch Choose, touch the name of the file that you want to print, and then touch Select.
If the file is stored in a folder, touch the name of the folder first, and then touch the name of the file.
To adjust the number of copies, touch the field to the left of the Print button, and then enter the number of copies using the touch keypad. Touch Done to close the keypad.
Touch Print to print the document.
