HP Jetdirect 2800w NFC/Wireless Direct Accessory - Install and set up the HP Jetdirect 2800w NFC/Wireless Direct Accessory

The HP Jetdirect 2800w NFC & Wireless Direct Accessory enables “touch” printing from mobile devices to newer HP LaserJet printers and MFPs.

The HP Jetdirect 2800w can be installed in many models that provide a Hardware Integration Pocket (HIP). For a list of supported HP printers see HP Jetdirect 2800w supported printers.

The HP Jetdirect 2800w also enables HP Wireless Direct printing which lets you print from your wireless mobile device directly to an HP Wireless Direct-enabled product without requiring connection to an established network or the Internet. Use HP Wireless Direct to print wirelessly from the following devices:

• iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using AirPrint or the HP ePrint App
• Android mobile devices using the HP ePrint App or the Android built-in print solution
• Symbian mobile devices using the HP ePrint Home & Biz App
• PC and Mac devices using the HP ePrint Software

note:

The HP Jetdirect 2700w USB Wireless Print Server will not work when installed at the same time as the HP Jetdirect 2800w.

1. Turn OFF the power to the printer/MFP.
2. Locate and open the Hardware Integration Pocket (HIP) on the printer/MFP.
   1. The HIP is covered by a rectangular cover that is retained by clips along its long edges.
      
   2. Using a thin, flat-blade screwdriver along either short edge, gently pry the cover off.
      
3. Attach the power and grounding ends of the USB cable to the HP Jetdirect 2800w.

   note:

   Before connecting the HP Jetdirect 2800w to the USB connector, verify that the printer/MFP is turned off.

   1. Locate the USB connector that is along one of the short edges. A USB Mini B receptacle (top) is the most common. However, on some models, a USB Mini B plug (bottom) is used.
      
   2. Select the appropriate cable from the two that are provided.
      
   3. Attach the white power connector of the cable into the corresponding receptacle on the underside of the HP Jetdirect 2800w with the contacts facing down.
      
   4. Attach the metal ground connector of the cable to the grounding tab on the underside of the HP Jetdirect 2800w.
      
4. Identify the USB connector in the HIP and attach the appropriate USB cable.
   Plug the USB cable into the socket in the HIP. Note that the USB logo on the connector may face down on some models of printers/MFPs.
   
5. Insert the HP Jetdirect 2800w into the HIP recess.
   1. Insert the HP Jetdirect 2800w into the HIP recess using the hook-shaped clips first.
      
   2. Gently push the HP Jetdirect 2800W onto the rounded clips so that it is held securely in place within the recess.
      
6. Turn ON the power to the printer/MFP The HP Jetdirect 2800W will light up to confirm the installation is correct. A wireless network icon will also appear on the control panel.

If the wireless icon is not displayed on the control panel, or if an “unknown device” message is displayed, the printer firmware needs to be updated. Follow the instructions below to update the firmware and set the FutureSmart level to 3:

1. Go to http://support.hp.com/drivers
2. In the Enter a product name or number text box, enter the printer name. For example, LaserJet M525.
3. Select Go.
4. Select Upgrade & Migrate beneath the Tasks heading in the left navigation area.
5. Select Firmware/Bios upgrade.
