HP Scitex FB910 Printer Series - Installation Instructions for Ink Filters

Replacing Ink Filters

All ink filters should be replaced at the same time. If you need to replace one filter, it is best to replace them all at once. In doing so, the printer will be able to track the correct amount of time between ink filter change.
Required Tools
  • Protective gloves (such as latex)
  • Protective eye wear
  • #2-phillips screwdriver
  • Paper towels
  • Drop cloth, newspaper or plastic (placed under work area to catch any ink that may drip during the removal of the filter)
Preparation
  1. Power off the printer, following the cautions in the section “Managing Power Off Scenarios.”
  2. Open the service door on the user-end cabinet.
  3. Place the drop cloth under the work area beneath the ink filters.
  4. Wear protective gloves, such as latex, to protect your hands from being stained with ink.
  5. Wear protective eye wear to protect your eyes from splashing ink.
  6. Place paper towels within reach of work area
    note:
When the filter is removed, it will be full of ink. Have sufficient paper towels available for this much ink.

Managing Power Off Scenarios

  1. Turn off the lamps at the printer’s control panel screen, and wait for the lamps to finish their cool down sequence.
      caution:
Failure to allow the lamps to cool down properly will damage the lamps. If you disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer or disconnect the power cable from the lamp assembly before the cool down sequence has finished, you will damage the lamps. Do not disconnect the power cable until the printer’s control panel screen no longer reads “Cooling”.
Figure : Press “Tools” to access lamp power off
  2. When the printer’s control panel screen no longer reads “Cooling” (it will change to “Off”), turn off the power to the printer.
  3. Make sure that the auxiliary power supply for the vacuum/pressure assembly is providing power to the vacuum/pressure assembly.
If the auxiliary power supply is not available, restore power to the printer as soon as it is safe. Failure to follow these instructions will result in ink seeping from the printheads during the repair due to lack of vacuum.
    Figure :
If auxiliary power to the vacuum/pressure assembly is not available, and you must power down the printer for an extended time, you must plan for ink that will eventually seep from the printheads. Only ink that is currently in the printheads will leak. Placing the carriage assembly over the wipe station should be adequate to handle the seepage.
      caution:
Allow the printer to complete its shutdown procedure before disconnecting the power cord.
If you need to power down the printer to access areas of the printer where high voltage exists, keep in mind that turning off the power switch does not completely remove power from the printer. To be safe, unplug the main power cable to the printer before proceeding with service. Once the main power cable had been unplugged, allow 5 minutes to pass to allow any current to drain from the capacitors.

Ink Filter Replacement

Removing the Ink Filter
  1. Remove the screw (A) that secures the filter to the enclosure.
Figure : Location of filter components

A = Screws that secures filter to enclosure
    B = Luer fitting
    C = Luer fitting
  2. Twist open the Luer fittings above (B).
  3. To keep ink from leaking from the filter, place your finger or thumb over the hole at the top of the filter (the hole created by removing fitting [B]).
  4. Unscrew the fitting (C) below the ink filter. Use a paper towel to capture the ink that leaks when the filter is removed.
  5. Wrap the used filter in paper towels to capture any ink that leaks from the filters.
Installing the Ink Filter
  1. Connect the filter to the ink pump using the original Luer fittings (C) and (B) shown in Fig. 1.
  2. Secure the filter to the cabinet using the original screw (A).
  3. Power on the printer.
Reset the Ink Filter Count
  1. From the printer’s menu, select TOOLS > MAINTENANCE > RESET RESERVOIR FILTERS.
If you are replacing a single filter, follow the menu options to select the color. Otherwise, choose SELECT ALL.
