In order to install the HP scanning software successfully on a computer with Windows XP, it is recommended to use an installation CD that has the correct files for Windows XP.
If your scanner did not come with Windows XP compatible HP scanning software, it may be obtained by downloading it from the HP Support Web site or by contacting HP and ordering a Windows XP compatible scanning software CD. Click “Contact HP” on this Web page for more support options.
-
Insert the HP scanning software installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. The Installer should automatically start. If the Installer does not start, click Start, then click Run. In the Open box, type D:\setup.exe (where D:\ is the letter of the CD-ROM drive).
-
Follow the instructions on the computer screen to install the HP scanning software.
-
When the HP Scanjet scanning software is completely installed, shut down the computer.
-
Connect the interface cables between the computer and the scanner, and then attach the scanner power cord to an electrical outlet.
-
Restart the computer with the scanner power on. A New Hardware Found window will open during the restart and the computer will install the necessary drivers.
