Solution: Replace the cartridge(s) indicated in the message to continue printing. Non-printing functions are still available.

Supply System Problem

Cause: Poor electrical contact between the cartridge and printer.

Solution:

Wipe the electrical contacts.

Printer software on computer	Startup Routine Ink Alert	The indicated cartridges might not be full enough to complete one-time startup processes. Please consider having replacement supplies available. If you received cartridges with a replacement printer or printhead use them for the startup routine. Please leave the printer powered on until all cartridges are installed to allow servicing to protect the print system. Install new cartridges or click OK to use currently installed cartridges.

Cause: The cartridge might not be full enough to complete setup. This message typically appears only during procedures guided by HP support. For normal printer initialization, make sure to use the SETUP cartridges that came with the printer.

Solution: Printer initialization might continue with the installed cartridge, but is not recommended. The printer might interrupt initialization if a cartridge is depleted and must be replaced.

Print System Sensor Warning

The following table shows specific "Sensor Warning" messages and where these messages display.

If the sensor has failed, it can no longer sense when your cartridges are depleted. Printing with a depleted cartridge will cause air to enter the system which causes poor print quality. The printer will perform major cartridge servicing to try to recover from this situation. This servicing will shorten the life of the cartridge. You should only use this cartridge if you believe it to not be depleted. Replace the cartridge or click OK to use it. To order a genuine HP replacement cartridge online, click Buy Now.

Cause: The cartridge or sensor may have failed.

Solution: Try replacing the cartridge with a genuine HP cartridge.

HP Protected Cartridge Installed

Printer software on computer	HP Protected Cartridge Installed	The cartridge(s) listed above can only be used in the printer that initially protected the cartridges using the HP Cartridge Protection feature, and must be replaced. The HP Cartridge Protection feature allows a printer owner to set the HP cartridges installed in their printer so that the cartridges will only work in that printer. To order a genuine HP replacement cartridge online, click Buy Now.

Cause:

The cartridge was originally installed in a printer with HP's Cartridge Protection feature turned on. The cartridge was marked on insertion and cannot be used in another printer.
The HP Cartridge Protection feature allows a printer owner to set the HP cartridges installed in their printer so that the cartridges will only work in that printer.

Solution:

Replace the cartridge. It can only be used in the printer it was originally installed in. The cartridge cannot be unlocked, but HP's Cartridge Protection feature can be turned off and subsequent cartridges that are installed in the printer will not be locked.

To turn off Cartridge Protection in the EWS, use the following steps:
1. Click the Tools tab.
2. Under Product Information, click Cartridge Settings.
3. From the Cartridge Protection drop-down list, select Off.
4. Click Apply.
Cartridge protection can also be turned on at printer initialization (the default is Off).

Problem with Printer Preparation

Cause: The printer's real time clock, which controls printhead servicing, has a problem and might have been tampered with.

Solution: If print quality is affected, the printer must be serviced to address this problem. If the printer has been tampered with, warranty may be voided.

Cartridge Sensor Failure

Solution:

You can adjust warning levels in the EWS using the following steps:
1. Click the Tools tab.

Cause:

Cartridges require periodic servicing to maintain good print quality and avoid damaging the printer. Attaching an aftermarket product to the printer's pigment delivery system, such as a continuous ink system, affects cartridge servicing and other printer functions and voids the HP limited warranty.

Solution:

To resume printing, remove the continuous ink system, and then install genuine HP (or compatible) cartridges.
The HP limited warranty is voided.

Unauthorized Cartridge
