HP LaserJet Pro - Blue-Screen Error Received in Windows 7 After Connecting the Printer Cable to the USB 3.0 Port on the Computer

Issue

After connecting the HP printer cable from an HP LaserJet Pro to the USB 3.0 port on an Intel series PC running Windows 7, a blue-screen, Windows 'Stop' error is received.
note:
The solutions for this issue apply only to computers with Intel Series 7/C216 chipsets.

Make sure your computer has an Intel Series 7/C216 chipset

  1. Click the Windows Start () button.
  2. In the Search programs and files box, type Device Manager, and then press Enter.
  3. Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Check the Intel®) series number.

Solution

If your computer has an Intel Series 7/C216 chipset, download and install the latest Intel USB drivers for your computer.
  1. Disconnect the printer USB cable from the computer. If the computer is still in a Windows Stop Error (Blue Screen) state, restart the computer before continuing to the next step.
    note:
    Make sure that you run the computer normally and not in Safe mode.
  2. Download the latest USB Host Controller driver from the Intel website.
    1. On the Intel website, click Download.
    2. Select the option I accept the terms in the license agreement.
    3. When the download dialog box displays, click Save.
    4. Open the zip file Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver.zip.
    5. Open the folder Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver.
    6. Double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update process.
  3. Restart your computer at the end of the update process.
    note:
    Consider making this page a bookmark or favorite in your web browser, so that you can reference it after restarting the computer.
  • If you already installed the printer software, reconnect the USB cable to the computer, and then you can use the printer.
  • If you did not install the printer software or if the software failed to install, insert the installation CD, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.

Workarounds

If for some reason the solution did not fix the issue, try one of the following workarounds:
  • Connect or reconnect the HP printer to a USB 2.0 port, or
  • Download and install the latest driver for a wireless network connection
