HP Scanjet Scanners - Various Errors Occur During Installation of the HP Scanning Software

Summary

Symptom

The Hewlett Packard Scanjet scanning software will not install properly. Errors may appear during installation, or the Install-Shield Wizard may stop.

Solution

Copy the scanning software folder from the HP CD-ROM installation disc to a new folder on the Windows Desktop, and then restart the computer in Safe Mode and install the HP Scanning Software from the new folder. Follow the instructions below to complete these steps:

Step 1: Create a new folder on the Desktop

  1. Right-click an empty space on the Windows Desktop. A menu will appear.
  2. Click New, and then click Folder. A New Folder will appear on the Desktop.
  3. Type: SCANNING SOFTWARE.
  4. Press ENTER.

Step 2: Copy the HP Scanjet scanning software CD to the Desktop

  1. Insert the HP Scanjet scanning software installation CD-ROM disc into the CD-ROM drive.
    opmerking:
    If the install starts, click Cancel and close HP install software window.
  2. From the Windows Desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Explorer. The WindowsExplorer window will open.
  3. Double-click the CD ROM drive icon (The HP icon may appear on the drive icon).
  4. Click Edit, and then click Select All. All of the files and folders on the right side will become highlighted.
  5. Click Edit, and then click Copy.
  6. Click the ScanningSoftware folder located on the left side of the screen.
  7. Click Edit, and then click Paste. The HP Scanning software CD disc is now copied to the hard drive of the computer system.
  8. Close the Windows Explorer window.
    opmerking:
    If having enough space available on the hard drive is a concern, copy the appropriate language folder and root files from the HP Scanjet scanning software CD.

Step 3: Restart the computer system in Safe Mode

  1. Place a blank floppy disk in the floppy drive.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. When the computer attempts to restart, a Non-System Disk Error will appear.
  4. Remove the blank floppy disk.
  5. Press the F8 key twice.
  6. From the menu that appears, select SafeMode, and then press ENTER. A message will indicate the computer is running in Safe Mode.
  7. Click OK.
    opmerking:
    The screen will appear large and grainy because Safe Mode displays the screen size at the minimal resolution with 16 colors.

Step 4: Install the HP Scanjet scanning software

  1. From the Windows Desktop, double-click the Scanning Software folder.
  2. Double-click the Setup.exe file. This file may be located with the root files or in the language folder, depending on the HP Scanjet scanning software being installed.
  3. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation.
  4. Once the HP Scanjet scanning software has completed installing, restart the computer system.
  5. Delete the Scanning Software folder from the Desktop.
