HP LaserJet - Set up an older HP printer in mac OS X

Add the HP printer driver to the Printers & Scanners list using a USB, wired network, or wireless network connection.

1. Make sure that the printer is connected via USB, a wired network, or a wireless network.

2. Open the Apple menu (), and then click System Preferences.

3. Click Printers & Scanners, and if the printer is already listed, select the printer name, and then click the Remove printer icon () at the bottom of the list to remove the printer.

4. Click the Add printer icon (), and then click the name of the printer in the list.

   Note:

   Make sure that the printer Kind is "Bonjour," "Bonjour Multifunction," or "USB."

5. In the Use drop-down list, select the driver for the HP printer to make it the default.

   Note:

   If the printer is compatible with AirPrint¹, Secure AirPrint or AirPrint will be selected by default (10.9 and newer). To use the HP driver features, make sure to select the HP driver.

6. Click Add to add the HP printer to the queue.

7. If prompted to install any printer software, click Install, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation.

8. If prompted, type your administrator account name and password.
