HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP LaserJet Managed - Increase the print speed and set up the HP High Speed feature

Learn how to increase the print speed and set up the HP High Speed feature on an HP LaserJet Enterprise or HP LaserJet Managed printer.

The HP High Speed setting is an option available on select HP LaserJet Enterprise or HP LaserJet Managed printers (see the Applicable printers section) running HP FutureSmart firmware version 4.10 or newer.

When enabled, this option increases the printer speed to print seven pages per minute (ppm) faster than the default print speed (when printing on a Letter or A4-size paper).

Use the following table to view the required conditions for the HP High Speed feature.

Note:

The HP High Speed print speed will reduce for duplex jobs and when printing in Tray 1. This feature does not support paper that is longer than A4-size or light, heavy, or narrow paper. It is recommended that the humidity in the room is within the recommended specifications for the printer and is not below 15°C.

Enable the HP High Speed feature

Learn how to increase the print speed of an HP LaserJet Enterprise or HP LaserJet Managed printer using the printer control panel or the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

  1. Make sure the printer supports this feature. See the Applicable printers section.

  2. Update the printer firmware.

    1. Go to www.hp.com/go/FutureSmart and select Upgrade now.

    2. Find the printer in the list and select the link in Link to Firmware download.

      Note:

      You can also download the printer firmware from HP Support.

    3. Expand the Firmware section, locate the latest FutureSmart Bundle version, and then select Download. For detailed instructions on how to perform a firmware update, go to Update the firmware.

  3. Use one of the following methods to enable the HP High Speed print speed option.

Enable the HP High Speed feature from the control panel

Follow these steps to enable the HP High Speed feature from the printer control panel.

  1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, select the Settings icon.

  2. Open the following menus:

    • Copy/Print or Print

    • Default Print Options

    • Print Quality

  3. Select the HP High Speed option.

  4. Select On to enable this feature.

Enable the HP High Speed feature from the EWS

Follow these steps to enable the HP High Speed feature from the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

  1. Note the IP address or hostname of the printer from either the control panel or a configuration page.

  2. Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS).

    1. Open a web browser and, in the address bar, type the IP address or host name and then press Enter.

    2. If prompted that the connection is not private or that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue or proceed to the website. Accessing this website will not harm the computer.

  3. Select the Print or Copy/Print tab.

  4. From the left navigation pane, select Default Print Options.

  5. Under the Quality and Speed section, select the HP High Speed option from the drop-down list.

    Note:

    The default print speed is the Normal option.

  6. Click Apply to save the changes.
