Poly VideoOS 4.1.0_00-180034 / 4.1.0-382263 Zoom ZDM update loop

Issue

  • An update loop occurs when "auto update" is enabled in both the G7500 or Studio X system web interface and in Zoom ZDM. This update loop updates the system between Poly VideoOS v4.1.0_00-180034 and VideoOS v4.1.0-382263

Root Cause

When auto-update is enabled at both sides, (system web interface and ZDM) the update loop will occur.

  • System Web Interface

    When auto-update is enabled from the system web interface, the system will take the software from “Polycom support site” automatically when there is newer version available.

    • In “Polycom support site,” Poly VideoOS 4.1.0_00-180034 is newer than Poly VideoOS 4.1.0-382263; so the device running on Poly VideoOS 4.1.0-382263 will be updated to Poly VideoOS 4.1.0_00-180034 automatically.

  • Zoom ZDM

    When auto-update is enabled from Zoom ZDM, the system will be updated with the new software version automatically when ZDM finds the server side has the ‘higher’ version of software than the working software version reported by the device.

    • Based on the current software version management rule of ZDM, Poly VideoOS 4.1.0_00-180034 is lower (older) than Poly VideoOS 4.1.0-382263; so a device running on Poly VideoOS 4.1.0_00-180034 will be pushed with the higher (newer) software version number (Poly VideoOS 4.1.0-382263) as an update.

  • Poly Studio X30/X50/X52/X70 and Poly G7500

Mitigation

When Poly Video OS 4.1.1 is released, and system is upgraded to Poly Video OS 4.1.1 with both the system web interface and Zoom ZDM can be set to “auto update,”, this update loop will not occur.

i.e. Systems on ZDM and running Poly VideoOS 4.1.0-382263 will be see Poly Video OS 4.1.1 as the next update on ZDM.

Workaround

Disable “auto-update” either from device system web interface, or from Zoom ZDM

  • If in Zoom mode, turn off Zoom ZDM auto-updates.

    • Zoom mode customers can stay on Poly VideoOS 4.1.0-382263*

  • If in Poly Video mode, turn off auto-updates.

    • Poly Video mode customers can stay on Poly VideoOS 4.1.0-382263*

  • Poly VideoOS 4.1.0_00-180034 contains a specific fix for MS for Teams users.
