HP Monitors - Updating a monitor driver

Some monitors require monitor drivers for certain functions. You might be required to download and update a monitor driver.

Note:

If the monitor has special features, such as a webcam, you might need extra software in addition to a monitor driver. For example, you might need to download HP Display Center or other software from the HP support site.

Monitors that are Plug-and-Play compatible usually do not need a separate monitor driver for normal use because the Plug-and-Play process provides the display modes that the monitor and graphic adapter can produce. However, if a monitor driver is available, installing it can provide a wider range of display resolutions.

If Windows allows only two resolutions (such as 1920 × 1080 or 1680 × 1050), or if the monitor's native display resolution is unavailable with Plug-and-Play, you can install a monitor driver. You can also update the graphics adapter driver.

Download and install monitor drivers for Windows

Choose one of the following options to download and install monitor drivers for Windows computers.

Download driver from HP Customer Support

Check HP Customer Support to see if a driver is available for your HP monitor.

Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then click Other.
Type your serial number, product number, or product name in the search field, and then press enter.
Click the name of your product from the list of products that is displayed.
Select the appropriate OS from the drop-down list under question 1.
Select the OS version from the drop-down list under question 2, and then click Submit.
Click the arrow next to Driver - Display/Monitor. A list of drivers is displayed.
Click Download to download the driver to your computer, and then double-click the downloaded driver to install it.

Note:
If a monitor driver is not available from the list, download and install HP Display Center.

If there is no driver and HP Display Center is not available, update the monitor driver using Device Manager.

Update drivers from Device Manager

You can search for and update to the latest drivers using Device Manager.

Note:

If you are using a third-party monitor and it came with software, install the driver that came with your monitor.

Search for and open Device Manager.
Click the arrow next to Monitors to expand the Monitors category, and then double-click the monitor name.
Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
Search for a monitor driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers to search for and install the latest driver software.
- If you have a driver disc, insert the disc, select Browse my computer for drivers, browse to the monitor driver file, and then click Open.
Click Next, and then click Finish to install the driver.

Update monitor drivers on a Mac

To ensure that you have the latest drivers, find the latest macOS updates using System Preferences or the Terminal. If you are still having issues, contact Apple technical support for further assistance.

Note:

HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP monitors. To use an HP monitor with a Mac, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the Mac. The monitor operates at 60 Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Windows and cannot be run in a standard macOS environment.

Download HP Display Center

HP Display Center allows you to adjust various settings on your HP monitor. You can download and install HP Display Center from Microsoft Store.
