HP Business PCs - Create DOS bootable USB flash drive

You can create a DOS-bootable USB flash drive by downloading and saving a FreeDOS operating system image. The bootable USB flash drive can then be used for testing and troubleshooting any component on your PC.

This procedure requires a USB flash drive that has a capacity of at least 8 GB. The selected drive must be formatted and all existing data must be erased.

  1. Go to the FreeDOS website (in English), and then click Download FreeDOS.

    Note:

HP does not control and is not responsible for information outside of the HP website.

  2. Download the FreeDOS 1.3 FullUSB zip file, and then extract the files.

  3. Connect the USB flash drive to your computer.

  4. Copy and paste the FD13FULL.img file to your USB flash drive.

The USB flash drive can now be used to load the DOS operating system.

To use the DOS operating system, change the boot order in the system BIOS to load the DOS operating system from the USB flash drive. For more information, go to HP PCs - Configuring the boot order in the system BIOS.
