HP LaserJet Pro 4001-4004, MFP 4101-4104 – Configure the admin password using the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Follow these steps to obtain the printer's IP address, and then use it to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) from a web browser.

1. Obtain the IP address or the host name of the printer.

   • HP LaserJet Pro 4001-4004

     1. On the printer control panel, press the OK button to display the Home screen.

     2. Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the following menus, and then press the OK button after selecting the menu:

        1. Setup

        2. Network Setup

        3. General Settings

     3. On the General Settings menu, select Show the IP Address, and then select Yes to view the printer's IP address or host name.

   • HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101-4104

     From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon , or the Ethernet icon to view the printer's IP address or host name.

2. Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS).

   1. On your computer, open a Web browser, and in the address bar, type the IP address or host name exactly as it displays on the printer control panel.

   2. Press Enter on the computer keyboard.

      Note:

      If the browser displays a message indicating that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue to the website. Accessing the website will not harm the computer.

      The EWS opens.

Follow these steps to change the password set for the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

1. On the EWS Home page, click the Settings tab.

2. In the left navigation pane, click Security, and then select the Password Settings option.

3. On the Log In with PIN screen, enter the factory-set default PIN, and then click Submit.

   If you signed in the EWS with a PIN, the Log In with PIN screen will not display.

4. Enter a new password in the Password field.

   Important:

   The default number of characters required in the password is "8" and must not exceed "16" characters.

   The new password must contain three of the following characteristics:

   • Uppercase letters

   • Lowercase letters

   • Numbers

   • Special characters

   Note:

   If the password requirements are not met, an error message will display on the page.

5. Enter the new password again in the Confirm Password field.

   Important:

   Make sure to note the new admin password set for the EWS. If this password is lost or forgotten, you will have to perform a factory reset procedure.

   After a printer reset, HP+ printer models must be connected to HP Cloud services again.

6. Click Apply to save the new password setting.

   After configuring a new password, use the new password to access the EWS printer settings.
