Troubleshooting steps when a printer is not listed in HP Easy Start

Use the following procedure to troubleshoot issues when your printer is not listed in HP Easy Start software.

  1. Position the computer running HP Easy Start software near your printer.

  2. Make sure that the printer, router, and computer are on.

  3. Confirm that the computer and printer are connected to the same network.

    • Wireless (Wi-Fi) network

      1. Make sure that the computer and printer are connected to the same wireless network.

      2. Ensure that the printer is not connected to the printer with a USB cable.

      3. Enable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on your computer and ensure that Airplane mode is disabled or turned off.

If you cannot enable Wi-Fi on your computer, try using another computer, and then connect to the printer.

      4. Check if the printer is connected to the network.

        • If the wireless light on the printer control panel is either on and steady or blinking, the printer is connected to the network.

        • If the wireless light is off or flashing, the printer is not connected to the network.

    • Wired (Ethernet) network

      1. Make sure your computer is connected to the router, if it is not already connected.

      2. Use the printer's Ethernet cable and connect the Ethernet cable to the printer and to an Ethernet or LAN port on the router.

Make sure that the printer and computer are connected to the same Ethernet subnet.

      3. Check the Ethernet port lights. The green link light should be steady, and the orange activity light should blink when the cable is connected.

  4. Turn the printer off and then turn it on.

  5. Wait for the printer and router to establish a network connection.

  6. Check if the printer is listed in HP Easy Start software.

  7. If the printer is not listed, follow the on-screen instructions in HP Easy Start software and check if the software finds your printer.
