HP OMEN PCs – Configure XMP-compatible memory that is not verified by HP

HP Certified Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)-compatible RAM can be overclocked to run at faster speeds using Memory Turbo Mode in the Overclocking tab of OMEN Gaming Hub. XMP-compatible memory that is not certified by HP is not configurable in OMEN Gaming Hub. You can use the OMEN Setup Utility to overclock XMP memory that has not been certified by HP.

Update the BIOS

Download and install the latest BIOS update from HP.

For more information, see HP Consumer Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows).

Install the memory

You must install the XMP-compatible memory into the appropriate slot.

For more information about your specific model, see https://www.youtube.com/HPSupport or the Maintenance and Service Guide.

Configure the XMP-compatible memory

After installing the memory and confirming that the computer starts into Windows, perform the following steps to configure the memory overclocking feature.

  1. To open OMEN Setup Utility, turn on or restart the computer, and then immediately press the f10 key repeatedly.

  2. Select Advanced > Memory Overclocking.

  3. In the Memory Profile menu, click XMP profile.

  4. Adjust the settings in the XMP Profile menu based on the specifications of the memory hardware manufacturer.

  5. Click Exit > Save with changes.

    OMEN Memory Overclocking option

OMEN Gaming Hub does not display memory overclocking features for XMP memory that is not certified by HP. To make adjustments to your memory overclocking settings, repeat this procedure.

Computer does not start after installing or configuring XMP-compatible memory

If you install a memory module that is not certified by HP, you might experience problems with different memory frequency, and the quality is not guaranteed. See the memory manufacturer specifications regarding performance. Unsuccessful memory tuning might occur if the memory modules are not compatible with the computer. If this occurs, the computer does not start correctly and emits beeping sounds (three long, two short).

  1. Press and hold the power button for ten seconds to shut down the computer.

  2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the AC outlet for at least one minute, and then plug it back in.

  3. Turn on the computer. If the symptom persists, then the memory modules are not compatible with the computer.

  4. Remove the third-party memory modules, and then reinstall the original memory modules.

After completing the memory-tuning process, the computer checks the operating system to confirm the memory configuration in Task Manager.
