HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise - Set up Fax Receive

Use the following information to set up fax receive using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Introduction

Use the Fax Receive Setup page to configure settings for the following groups of features:

  • Device Modem Settings

  • Fax Job Options

  • Fax Receive Settings

  • Notification Settings

  • Fax Printing Schedule

  • Blocked Fax Numbers

Before you begin

Connect the fax cable to the fax port on the printer and to the phone port on the wall.

Step one: Set up the Fax Job Options

Learn how to set up the fax job options for either HP FutureSmart 3 or HP FutureSmart 4 and 5.

HP FutureSmart 3

Use the following steps to select the fax job options (HP FutureSmart 3).

  1. Using the top navigation tabs, click Fax.

  2. In the left navigation pane, click Fax Receive Setup.

  3. In the Fax Receive Setup area, select the Enable Fax Receive check box. If this check box is not selected, the feature is unavailable at the printer control panel.

  4. Set the following features in the Fax Job Options area:

    • Paper Selection: If you select a tray, the fax prints on whatever size paper is in the tray

    • Output Bin

    • Sides: Set this option to specify whether incoming faxes are printed on one side or two sides

      Note:

      You must be an administrative user to access this setting.

    • Fit to Page: Scale the incoming page to print on the size of paper in one of the trays

    • Stamp Received Faxes: Select this setting to print the date, time, phone number, and page number on every incoming fax page

  5. Review the selected settings, and then click Apply to complete the setup.

HP FutureSmart 4 and 5

Use the following steps to select the fax job options (HP FutureSmart 4 and 5).

  1. Using the top navigation tabs, click Fax.

  2. In the left navigation pane, click Fax Receive Setup.

  3. In the Fax Receive Setup area, select the Enable Fax Receive check box. If this check box is not selected, the feature is unavailable at the printer control panel.

  4. Set the following features in the Default Job Options area:

    • Paper Selection: If you select a tray, the fax prints on whatever size paper is in the tray

    • Output Bin

    • Output Sides: Set this option to specify whether incoming faxes are printed on one side or two sides

      Note:

      You must be an administrative user to access this setting.

    • Fit to Page: Scale the incoming page to print on the size of paper in one of the trays

    • Stamp Received Faxes: Select this setting to print the date, time, phone number, and page number on every incoming fax page

  5. Review the selected settings, and then click Apply to complete the setup.

Step two: Set up the Fax Receive Settings

Set the following features in the Fax Receive Settings area:

HP FutureSmart 3

  • Ringer Volume

  • Rings To Answer: Select the number of rings to allow before the fax answers

  • Fax Receive Speed

  • Ring Interval: Select a ring interval between 220 and 600 ms

  • Ring Frequency: The default ring frequency is 68 Hz. You can set a custom frequency between 1 and 200 Hz

HP FutureSmart 4 and 5

  • Ring Volume

  • Rings To Answer: Select the number of rings to allow before the fax answers

  • Fax Receive Speed

  • Ring Interval: Enter a ring interval between 0 and 600 ms

  • Ring Frequency High Limit: The default ring frequency is 68 Hz. You can set a custom frequency between 0 and 100 Hz

Step three: Set up the Notification Settings

Set up the notification settings for either HP FutureSmart 3 or HP FutureSmart 4 and 5.

HP FutureSmart 3

Use the settings in the Notification Settings area to specify when you, or the person who is sending the email, should be notified of the status of sent emails. The default setting is that the signed in user's email address will be used. If the recipient email address is blank, no notification is sent.

Set the following features in the Notification Settings area:

  • Condition on Which to Notify: Select one of the following conditions on which to notify:

    • Notify when job completes

    • Notify only if job fails

  • Method Used to Deliver Notification: Select the notification method, E-mail or Print. For E-mail, provide an email address

  • Include Thumbnail: A thumbnail image of the first page of the fax is sent with the notification

  • Consolidate printed reports: Consolidate multiple fax destinations into the same fax call report

HP FutureSmart 4 and 5

To select notification settings, navigate to the Notification area of the Fax Receive Setup area, or navigate to Default Job Options in the Fax Send Setup area. Set notification settings to specify when you, or the person who is sending the email, should be notified of the status of sent emails. The default setting is that the signed in user's email address will be used. If the recipient email address is blank, no notification is sent.

Set the following features in the Notification area:

  • Condition on Which to Notify: Select one of the following conditions on which to notify:

    • Do not notify

    • Notify when job completes

    • Notify only if job fails

Step four: Set up the Fax Printing Schedule

Set up the fax printing schedule for either HP FutureSmart 3 or HP FutureSmart 4 and 5.

HP FutureSmart 3

Faxes print by default, but they can also be stored and printed on a schedule that you determine. Use the Fax Printing Schedule setting to specify when to print and when to store faxes.

Select one of the following options for the Fax Printing Schedule:

  • Always store faxes

  • Always print faxes (default)

  • Use Fax Printing Schedule

Use the Use Fax Printing Schedule setting to set fax schedule events (the printing or storing of faxes). The setting can be turned on and off manually or scheduled to go on and off automatically for days of the week. The schedule can be set to lock out an entire day (24 hours) or to lock out a time period during the day. Only one lockout period can be set, but it can be applied to any number of days.

  1. Select the Use Fax Printing Schedule option.

  2. Choose whether to select to enable the Use Holiday Sleep Schedule check box.

  3. Select a Fax Schedule Event, or click Add to create a new fax schedule event:

    1. Select an Event Type.

    2. Click in the Time field and then select a time for the fax schedule event.

    3. Select one or more Event Days.

    4. Click Apply.

  4. Review the selected settings, and then click Apply to complete the setup.

HP FutureSmart 4 and 5

    2. Click in the Time field and then select a time for the fax schedule event.

    3. Select one or more Event Days.

    4. Click Apply.

  4. To edit a fax scheduled event, select the event and click Edit.

  5. Review the selected settings, and then click Apply to complete the setup.
