HP printers - 'Unable to register the printer to your account' error

During printer setup, the printer does not connect to HP cloud services and an Unable to register the printer to your account error displays with the error code UA_200_OWSVD00001 or OW_4XX_0WSWS00001 in the HP Smart app or HP Easy Start. Finish printer setup to register the printer to your account.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Try to complete the printer setup after each task.

'Unable to register the printer to your account' error

Make sure the printer is ready for software setup

Check for any remaining packing materials and make sure the printer is in a ready state.

  1. Make sure all packing materials and tape have been removed. Open the cartridge access door and the paper tray to look for and remove any remaining materials inside the printer.

    Note:

    For HP ENVY Inspire 7200 and 7900 printers, remove the additional cardboard between the paper trays and the tape securing the trays.

  2. Turn the printer off and then on again.

  3. Return to the error window in the HP Smart app, and then click Try Again.

    If the issue is not resolved, select Exit Setup, and then close HP Smart. Restart the printer, and then reopen HP Smart to complete the setup.

Restore printer factory defaults

Restore your printer to the default factory settings using the HP Smart app or internet browser to open the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS). Restoring factory defaults can help resolve printer setup issues, connectivity problems, and error messages.

  1. Choose one of the following methods to open the advanced settings for your printer.

    • HP Smart app: Click the image of your printer to open the settings and management tools, and then click Advanced Settings under Settings.

    • Printer EWS: Open the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS) using the printer IP address.

  2. From the EWS home page, click the Settings or System tab.

  3. If you are prompted to log in or enter the printer PIN, enter admin for the username (HP LaserJets only), enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit or OK. This label is typically located inside the cartridge access area or printer door.

  4. Restore your printer to factory defaults.

    • For most HP printers, click Restore Factory Defaults or Factory under Restore Defaults. Click Restore Factory Defaults > Yes.

    • For HP LaserJet printers, click Service, and then click Restore defaults > OK.

    After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

  5. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network, if necessary.

  6. Check for any printer firmware updates.

Remove your printer from the HP Smart app

Remove the printer from the HP Smart app to help fix any app connectivity issues.

Note:

Removing your printer from the HP Smart app does not remove the printer from your HP Smart account or cancel your Instant Ink subscription (if enrolled).

  1. Open the HP Smart app, and then right-click or long-press the image of your printer.

  2. Click Hide Printer.

  3. When prompted, click Hide Printer again to confirm removal.

    The printer no longer displays on the app home screen.

Set up the printer using the HP Smart app

Set up your printer using the HP Smart app.

  1. Open the HP Smart app.

  2. From the app home screen, click Add Printer or the Add printer icon ( or ).

  3. For mobile devices, tap Get Started under Set up a new printer. If prompted to select a connection type, click WiFi or Ethernet Cable, and then tap Continue. Prepare the printer for the connection, and then tap Continue.

  4. Find your printer in the list, click the printer name or Set Up, and then follow the prompts to finish the setup. It might take a few minutes before the printer displays.
