HP Chromebook PCs - Troubleshooting Audio Issues (Chrome OS)

This document applies to HP Chromebook PCs with a built-in microphone.

Certain HP Chromebooks include a built-in webcam and microphone. If you are experiencing audio issues when using your microphone online, the web browser or site security settings might be blocking the device. Change the security settings using one of the procedures below.

Audio issues occur on all websites

If the microphone fails on all websites, use the steps in this section to change your security settings in the Chrome browser.

Open the Chrome web browser.
At the top-right of the browser window, click the Chrome menu icon .
Select Settings.
Under Privacy and security, click Site Settings.
Click Camera.
Next to Ask before accessing, click the slider to turn it on or off.
Click the arrow to return to Site Settings.
Click Microphone.
Next to Ask before accessing, click the slider to turn it on or off.

If the audio issue is not resolved, turn off Bluetooth, and then complete the procedure again.

Audio issues occur on specific websites

If the microphone works most of the time but fails on certain websites, use the steps in this section to grant permissions for those websites to use your recording devices.

Go to the website.
Click the security icon to the left of the URL in the address bar.
Click Site settings.
In the drop-down lists next to Camera and Microphone, select Allow.

Reset the computer settings
