HP PCs - Connecting to a Mobile Network Using an eSIM (Windows 10)

This document is for HP PCs with Windows 10.

Certain HP products with Windows 10 support embedded SIMs, or eSIMs, to connect to the internet over a cellular data connection. The eSIM is stored electronically and allows you to purchase a data plan without a physical SIM card. You can switch between mobile carriers and data plans, for example using multiple mobile carriers with local plans while traveling. You can also set up separate cellular data plans for work and personal use.

Requirements for using an eSIM

Make sure you have the following:

A PC running on Windows 10 Version 1703 or later. Use the following steps to check your Windows version:
1. In Windows, search for and open Settings.
2. Click System and then click About.
  
  The operating system version is displayed.
A PC with an eSIM. To determine if your system has an eSIM or not, follow these steps:
1. In Windows, search for and open Settings.
2. Click Cellular.
  
  If a Manage eSIM profiles link is found near the bottom of the page then your PC has an eSIM.

  Your carrier might also provide an activation code or a confirmation code.

Adding eSIM profiles

Unless your organization already provided an eSIM profile on your PC, you must add a profile to connect to the internet over cellular data.

note:
If you see an eSIM profile for your organization’s mobile provider after you click Manage eSIM profiles, skip this procedure and go to the next one.

Search for and open Settings.
Click Cellular.
From the Cellular screen, click Manage eSIM profiles.

If you see a profile for your organization’s mobile provider in the list of eSIM profiles, skip the rest of these steps and go to Connecting to cellular data using an eSIM profile.
Click Add a new profile.
If your mobile carrier issued an activation code, do the following steps. Otherwise, skip to step 6.
1. Select Let me enter an activation code I have from my mobile operator and then click Next.
2. If the activation code is a QR code, use the camera on your PC and scan the QR code.
3. The activation code is displayed in the Activation code box, click Next
4. When the Do you want to download this profile window opens, enter the confirmation code from your mobile carrier, and then click Download.
5. Click Close.
To search for available profiles, do the following steps:
1. Select Search for available profiles and then click Next.
2. Select a profile and enter the confirmation code provided by your mobile operator in the corresponding box, and then click Download.
3. After installing the downloaded profile, click Continue. To install more profiles, repeat this process.
4. Click Close after all your profiles are downloaded.
To rename a profile, select the profile, click Edit name, type a name (such as Business or Home), and then click Save.

Connecting to cellular data using an eSIM profile

To connect to cellular data using an eSIM profile, use the following steps:

In Windows, search for and open Settings.
Click Cellular.
From the Cellular screen, click Manage eSIM profiles.
When the eSIM profiles window opens, select a profile, and then select Use.
Select Yes when you see the message This will use cellular data from your data plan and may incur charges. Do you want to continue?. You are then connected to a cellular data network.

Switching between profiles

If you want to use a different mobile operator and data plan, you can switch between profiles if you installed more than one.

In Windows, search for and open Settings.
Click Cellular.
Click Manage eSIM profiles.
To discontinue a profile, select the profile under eSIM profiles, and then click Stop using.
Click Yes when you see the message You'll be disconnected from this cellular network. Continue?.
Select the profile that needs to be activated, and then click Use.

Deleting a profile

This section describes how to delete a profile. To delete eSIM profiles, use the following steps:

In Windows, search for and open Settings.
Click Cellular.
Click Manage eSIM profiles.
Select the profile you want to delete under eSIM profiles, and then select click Delete.
A prompt warns you that the profile will be permanently deleted, click Yes to confirm.
