DESCRIPTION
Serial devices and powered USB (PUSB) peripherals may not function after being hot plugged (connecting or disconnecting while the system is powered on) because the necessary device drivers may not load and, more importantly, because hot plugging serial and PUSB devices can potentially damage any or all of:
  • Serial port hardware
  • Serial devices
  • The system board or Advanced I/O Hubs
  • PUSB devices

RESOLUTION
To ensure that serial and PUSB device drivers load and to avoid hardware damage, power the system off before connecting or disconnecting serial and PUSB devices. Hot plugging peripherals is not recommended. Hot plugging and unplugging peripherals can potentially cause permanent hardware damage. Damage caused by hot plugging and/or unpluggung serial devices is not covered by your HP warranty.
