  3. Open the ADF cover and check for paper stuck in any part of the mechanism.

Specific Error Messages

"ADF Door Open" Message
  1. Open and close ADF cover securely.
  2. Pull out and reseat ADF connector at the back of the scanner under the scanner lid (some models won’t have a connector under the scanner lid).
  3. If problem persists, contact HP Support.
"Document Loaded" Message
  1. Open the ADF cover and verify that no piece of paper is covering any part of the ADF mechanism.
  2. Open ADF cover and verify that black bracket in the cover can be pushed down easily and that it snaps back out when released.
  3. If the bracket is stuck, it can often be reseated and continue working, see the Figure below.
  4. If the bracket is missing, broken, or cannot be reseated, contact HP Support.
"Document Feeder Jam, Clear, Reload" Message
  1. Look for any paper sticking out of the input tray or the output area under the input tray.
If any paper is found, grasp the paper in the center and gently pull until it comes out. The ADF is made to clear paper in the direction of the output, so if you can pull paper in this direction it is preferred.
  2. Open the ADF cover and look for any paper. If found grasp in the center and gently pull until freed.
  3. Lift the scanner lid an look under the ADF for paper. If paper is found covering the white plastic, it needs to be removed. This is most easily accomplished by pulling the paper from the output. If not enough paper is showing in the output bin, cut the paper along the length of the ADF, grasp each piece in the center and carefully pull until the paper is freed. Every piece of paper needs to be removed, see the Figure below..
  4. Power the printer off and on. If the message doesn’t clear, contact HP Support.
