HP LaserJet Pro MFP M521 - Replace the separation pad

Before beginning

Step 1: Remove the Separation Pad

  1. Turn off the product.

  2. Disconnect the USB and fax cables.

  3. Disconnect the power cable.

  4. Open the document feeder cover.

  5. Locate the separation pad at the end of the document feeder input tray.

  6. Press the separation pad down, and push it to the right, towards the input tray. If necessary, insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the gap on the left of the separation pad to push it right with enough force. The separation pad makes a distinct pop sound when it has released. Remove the separation pad from the product. Make sure the spring under the separation pad remains in place.

Step 2: Unpack the Replacement Separation Pad Assembly

Unpack the replacement separation pad assembly.
If your part requires return or recycling, go to Product return and recycling.
note:
HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective separation pad.

Step 3: Install the Replacement Separation Pad

  1. Insert the separation pad into the product above the spring, and align the two pins on the pad with the notches. Push the separation pad down as far as the spring can compress, and then push the separation pad to the left about 2 mm. When the separation pad is installed correctly, it makes a distinct pop sound and the back of the separation pad rises up when the pressure is released.

  2. Close the document feeder cover.
  3. Connect the USB and fax cables.

  4. Connect the power cable.

  5. Turn on the product.
