HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP OfficeJet Enterprise - PCL font supports Bar Code printing when using the HP FutureSmart firmware version 3.7 or newer

HP LaserJet Enterprise and HP OfficeJet Enterprise Printers using HP FutureSmart firmware bundle version 3.7 or newer are implemented with embedded barcodes which include Code 128, Code 3 of 9, OCR-A, and OCR-B in the PCL Font List. This new functionality enables users to print barcodes without any additional font solutions.

note:

When FutureSmart bundle firmware version 4.7 is released in late Fall 2018, the new embedded barcodes implemented will include Interleaved 2 of 5 (I 2 of 5) and additonal font commands for Code 128 and Code 3 of 9.

The PCL Font List provides font commands (escape sequence) to print barcodes.

Review the following "Disk Resident" fonts on the PCL Font List:

BC30f9 (also known as Code 39 barcode or Code 3 of 9): The 3 of 9 barcode font is an alpha-numeric barcode designed to store encoded data and used in many applications to create barcodes for scanning.

Code 128: This is a high-density barcode supporting alpha-numeric characters and is one of the most popular modern barcodes to store encoded data.

OCR-A and OCR-B: These font sets are accepted by the government for optical character recognition.

I 2 of 5 (Interleaved 2 of 5): This is a barcode font designed to display and print a pre-determined set of lines and spaces in varying widths. The lines and spaces support numeric characters. The numbers are encoded in a high-density manner into the barcode and readable only by barcode scanners.

note:

"I 2 of 5" barcode is only implemented with FutureSmart bundle version 4.7.

Update the printer’s firmware to the latest FutureSmart bundle version available on HP Customer Support.

Follow the steps below to print the PCL Font List.

The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

FutureSmart 3

1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, scroll to and select Administration.
2. Open the following menus:
   • Reports
   • Other Pages
3. Select PCL Font List, and then select Print.
4. Make sure to use the correct Escape Sequence in your application for the corresponding font from the PCL Font List.

FutureSmart 4

1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, select Reports, and then select Other Pages.
2. Select PCL Font List, and then select Print to print the page.
3. Make sure to use the correct Escape Sequence in your application for the corresponding font from the PCL Font List.
