HP LaserJet Enterprise M806, HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M830 - Install or Replace the High Capacity Input Feeder

Introduction

This document provides the procedures to install or replace the high capacity input (HCI) feeder kit for the HP LaserJet Enterprise M806 and HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M830.

Before you begin
  • Use the table below to identify the correct kit part number for your printer, and then go to www.hp.com/buy/parts to order the kit.

    note:
    This kit includes a paper path connection assembly that must be installed for the M806dn printer. Installing this part is only required if the HCI is installed as an optional accessory. If a defective HCI is replaced, the paper path connection assembly is already installed in the printer (M806x+ and M830z models).
Required tools
  • No special tools are required to install this kit.
Replacement options

Step 1 - Remove the HCI

note:
If your printer does not have a HCI accessory installed and you are installing an optional HCI accessory, go to Step 2 - Unpack the Optional or Replacement HCI Accessory.
  1. Do the following:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
        warning:
      Turn the printer off, wait five seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the printer.
    3. Disconnect all cables from the printer.
    4. If installed, disconnect the output accessory interface cable, and completely remove the accessory from the printer.
  2. Open Tray 4 and Tray 5, and then slide the blue lever to the left to unlock the HCI from the printer.

  3. Close Tray 4 and Tray 5.

  4. Lift the printer up and off of the HCI.
    The printer is heavy. HP recommends that four people lift the printer to remove it.
    • M806dn: 76.1 kg (168 lb)
    • M806x+: 108.4 kg (239 lb)
    • M830z: 136 kg (300 lb)

Step 2 - Unpack the Optional or Replacement HCI Accessory

  1. Unpack the HCI from the packaging.
  2. Remove all tape and packing material from outside the accessory. Open all doors and paper trays, and remove all tape and packing material from inside the accessory.

    note:
    HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective HCI.
  3. M806dn model only:
    If installing an optional HCI accessory, do the following:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
        warning:
      Turn the printer off, wait five seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the printer.
    3. Disconnect all cables from the printer.
    4. If installed, disconnect the output accessory interface cable, and completely remove the accessory from the printer.

Step 3 - Install the Optional or Replacement HCI

  1. Place the printer on the HCI.
    The printer is heavy. HP recommends that four people lift the printer.
    • M806dn: 76.1 kg (168 lb)
    • M806x+: 108.4 kg (239 lb)
    • M830z: 136 kg (300 lb)

  2. Open Tray 4 and Tray 5, and then slide the blue lever to the right to lock the HCI to the printer.

  3. Slide the blue paper-selector lever to the left to select letter-size paper, or to the right to select A4-size paper.

  4. Load paper in the trays, and then close the trays.

  5. Do the following:
    note:
    If the optional HCI accessory was installed for the M806dn printer, skip this step and go to Step 4- Install the paper path connection assembly (M806dn only).
    1. If removed, connect the output accessory interface cable, and attach the accessory to the printer.
    2. Connect all cables to the printer.
    3. Plug in the power cord.
    4. Turn on the printer.

Step 4: Install the paper path connection assembly (M806dn only)

note:
The following steps are required if the optional HCI accessory was installed for the M806dn printer. For all other models, proceed to Step 5.
  1. Open the right-side door.

  2. Install the paper path connection assembly into the cavity at the bottom of the right-side door opening.
    note:
    Make sure that the rollers are at the top of the assembly before installing it.

  3. Make sure the two locking pins located on either side of the assembly snap into place.

  4. Close the right-side door.

Step 5 - Finish the installation process

  1. If removed, connect the output accessory interface cable, and attach the accessory to the printer.
  2. Connect all cables to the printer.
  3. Plug in the power cord.
  4. Turn on the printer.
