HP LaserJet Enterprise MFP M527 - Setting up the printer (hardware) (f models)

This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the printer. Complete these steps before installing the printer software on the computer.
If the printer hardware is already set up, see the Links to software installation instructions section at the end of this document.
This document includes the following steps to set up the printer:

Step one: Unpack the printer

  1. Select a site to place the printer that meets the following specifications:
    • A sturdy, well-ventilated, dust-free area, away from direct sunlight
    • Temperature range: 17° - 25° C
    • Humidity range: 30% - 70%
Allow enough space around the printer to open all doors and trays.
      caution:
The printer weighs 23 kg. HP recommends that two people move the printer.
    Figure : Space requirements
To move the printer, use the handles on the bottom of the printer.

If the printer is to be connected to a network, connect the network cable now. If not, skip this step and go to Step four: Connect the power cable and turn on the printer.
  caution:
Do not connect a USB cable now. To use a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer, connect it when prompted during software installation.

Step three: Connect the fax cable

Connect the phone cord for fax between the printer and the phone jack.

Step four: Connect the power cable and turn on the printer

  1. Connect the power cable between the printer and a grounded AC outlet. To prevent damage to the printer, use only the power cable that is provided with the printer.
      caution:
Make sure the power source is adequate for the printer voltage rating. The voltage rating is on the printer label. The printer uses either 100-127 Vac or 220-240 Vac and 50/60 Hz.

  2. Turn the printer power on.
Figure : Turn the power on
  3. Wait for 60 seconds before continuing. During this time, if the printer is connected to a network, the network recognizes the printer and assigns an IP address or host name for the printer.
  4. On the control panel, set the language, the date/time format, and the time zone.
    note:
For advanced setup of network-connected printers, enter the printer IP address in the address bar of a Web browser after software installation is complete.

Step five: Load Tray 2

  1. Open Tray 2 by pulling it out and lifting up slightly to remove it completely from the printer.
    note:
Do not open this tray while it is in use.
    Figure : Open the tray
  2. Adjust the paper guides by squeezing the adjustment latches and sliding the guides to the size of the paper being used.
    Figure : Adjust the guides
  3. Load paper into the tray. Check the paper to verify the guides lightly touch the stack, but do not bend it.
    note:
To prevent jams, do not overfill the tray. Be sure that the top of the stack is below the tray full indicator.
    Figure : Load paper
  4. Close the tray.

  5. The control panel shows the tray’s paper type and size. If the configuration is not correct, follow the instructions on the control panel to change the type or size.
