HP Notebook PCs - Switch between tablet and desktop modes and change the screen rotation (Windows)
Learn how to switch your touchscreen notebook display between desktop and tablet mode. You can also lock the screen display
to prevent automatic screen rotation while using in tablet mode, or you can manually change the screen orientation.
Enable tablet mode settings
Tablet mode optimizes your device for touch, so you can use your notebook without a mouse or keyboard. You can choose to make
desktop or tablet mode the default setting when you sign in on your notebook.
Note:
In Windows 11, tablet mode is automatically enabled when you flip your notebook to use it as a tablet.

In Windows 10, search for and open Tablet settings.
The Tablet mode window is displayed.

Select the mode to use from the When I sign in drop-down menu.

Use tablet mode: Prevents your device from using desktop mode in any configuration.

Use desktop mode: Prevents your device from using tablet mode in any configuration.

Use the appropriate mode for my hardware: Enables automatic switching between desktop and tablet mode based on configuration. This is the default setting.

To choose to be notified when your notebook switches modes, select an option from the When I use this device as a tablet drop-down menu.

Don't ask me and don't switch: Prevents your device from switching modes or requesting permission.

Always ask me before switching: Prevents your device from switching modes without permission.

Don't ask me and always switch: Enables automatic mode switching without notification or permission. This is the default setting.

To customize additional settings, click Change additional tablet settings.

Toggle the slider to choose whether to Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode.

Toggle the slider to choose whether to Hide app icons on the taskbar in tablet mode.
Lock the screen rotation in tablet mode
Use the Rotation lock feature to disable automatic screen rotation when using the computer in tablet mode.

In Windows, search for and open Settings.

Click System, and then click Display.

Under the Scale and layout section, turn on Rotation lock.
Note:
If you are using your notebook in desktop mode, the rotation lock setting might be grayed out. Rotate your screen to enable
the rotation lock setting.
Change the screen orientation in desktop mode
The Rotation lock feature is not available when using the computer in desktop mode. Use Windows Settings to change the screen
orientation.

In Windows, search for and open Settings.

Click System, and then click Display.

Click the Display orientation or Orientation drop-down menu, and then select an option from the list.
