HP PCs - Blocking pop-up windows or advertisements

When you surf the internet, you might encounter pop-up advertisements that can become distracting or annoying. There are a few things that you can do to eliminate pop-up advertisements.

A pop-up is a small web browser window that is displayed on top of the website that you're viewing. Pop-up windows often open as soon as you visit a website and are usually advertisements.

Web browsers have features called pop-up blockers that can prevent pop-up windows from appearing. In most pop-up blocker programs, you can choose the level of filtering that you want, select which pop-ups you want displayed, and build a blocklist of those you do not.

Some programs allow you to import blocklists from other users. The strongest filters block additional forms of web advertising, such as banner ads, and offer protection from intrusive spyware downloads used to track website visitors. Extensive filtering can slow down your browsing.

Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) provide software that can be used to disable pop-up windows. Check with your ISP regarding availability.
