The HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) is a printer homepage accessed through a web browser for managing settings, getting updates, and performing maintenance tasks.
There are several ways to open the printer homepage:
A local network connection: When your printer is connected over a wireless or wired (Ethernet) connection, enter the printer IP address into a web browser address bar.
The HP Smart app: From a computer or mobile device, open the printer settings in the app.
A Wi-Fi Direct connection: Connect your printer over Wi-Fi Direct to your computer or mobile device, and then enter the printer IP address into a web browser address bar. Wi-Fi Direct support varies by printer model.
Access the printer homepage through the settings menu in HP Smart.
Open the HP Smart app, and then create an account or sign in. If you do not have the app, download it from 123.hp.com or your app store.
If your printer is not already available, click Add Printer or the plus sign to add the printer.
From the app home screen, select your printer name or image.
Scroll down the list of settings to select Advanced Settings or Printer Home Page (EWS).
If you are prompted to log in or enter the printer PIN, enter admin for the username (HP LaserJets only), enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit or OK. This label is typically located inside the cartridge access area or printer door.
The Advanced Settings or printer homepage opens.
If your printer is connected to the local network, get the IP address, and then type it into a web browser on a computer or mobile device to open the printer homepage.
Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your device.
Find your printer IP address.
HP Smart app: From the app home screen, click the image of your printer, and then click Network Information to find the IP address.
Printers with a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, open the Wireless Summary or Network Settings menu to find the IP address.
Printers without a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, press the Information button to print an Information Report, and then find the IP address on the printout. Printing reports from the control panel can vary by printer model.
Type the IP address into the web browser address line, and then press Enter.
If you are prompted to log in or enter the printer PIN, enter admin for the username (HP LaserJets only), enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit or OK. This label is typically located inside the cartridge access area or printer door.
The printer homepage opens.
Use a direct wireless connection to your printer to access the printer homepage on your computer or mobile device.
Place the printer close to your computer or mobile device.
Turn on the printer, and then make sure ink cartridges are installed and paper is loaded in the tray.
Find the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. For example, DIRECT-72-HP OfficeJet Pro 6970.
HP Smart app: From the app home screen, click the image of your printer, and then click Advanced Settings to open the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS). From the EWS home page, click the Network or Networking tab, and then click Wi-Fi Direct > Setup or Wi-Fi Direct Setup to view the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.

Printers with a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon to view the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
Printers without a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, press the Information button to print an Information Report. Printing reports from the control panel can vary by printer model.
Depending on your printer, another method might be:
Press and hold the Wi-Fi Direct button for 3 seconds.
Press the Wi-Fi Direct and Information buttons at the same time.
Press and hold the Resume button ( or ) for up to 10 seconds until the report prints.
HP DeskJet 6000, 6400, ENVY 6000, 6400, and Tango printers: Touch and hold the Information button until all buttons light up, and then touch the Information and Cancel buttons at the same time.
On your computer or mobile device, open the Wi-Fi or wireless settings to view the list of available wireless networks.
Select your Wi-Fi Direct printer name from the list of networks, and then enter the password to connect to the printer.
In a web browser, type 192.168.223.1 into the address bar, and then press Enter.
If you are prompted to log in or enter the printer PIN, enter admin for the username (HP LaserJets only), enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit or OK. This label is typically located inside the cartridge access area or printer door.
The printer homepage opens.

If you are prompted for additional credentials when accessing the printer homepage, check for a PIN on the printer UPC sticker or contact the printer administrator for the password.
On the credential prompt, enter admin (default) for the username.
Locate the PIN on the printer UPC sticker found on either the back of the printer or inside the cartridge access area, and then enter it.
If a PIN is not listed on the sticker or the sticker is missing, contact the printer administrator for the PIN or password.
Print a Network Configuration or Wireless Network Test Results Page, and then use the information on it to connect your printer wirelessly.
Print a Network Configuration Report.
HP Smart app: From the app home screen, click the image of your printer, click Printer Reports under Tools, and then select Network Configuration Report.
Printers with a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, open the Wireless or Network Settings menu, and then select Network Configuration Report or Network Configuration Page.
HP printers without a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, press and hold the Wireless and Information buttons. Printing reports from the control panel can vary by printer model.
Depending on your printer, another method might be:
Press the Wireless and Resume/Cancel buttons at the same time.
Press and hold the Information button until all buttons light up, and then press and hold the Resume button or press the Information Resume buttons.
Press and hold the Resume button ( or ) until the Ready light blinks
On the printout, find the Wireless Status, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and URL.
Wireless status: Under 802.11 Wireless, the Status should be Connected. If it is not, your printer is not connected to the wireless network. Connect your printer to the network. For more information, go to Connect to a wireless HP printer.
IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway: Under 802.11 Wireless, find the printer's IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway numbers. If you see different numbers for IPv4 and IPv6, you only need the IPv4 numbers.
URL(s): Under General Information, find the URL(s) for Embedded Web Server. Your printer might have more than one URL.
From a computer connected to the same network as your printer, open an internet browser, type one of the URLs into the address field, and then press Enter to open the printer's EWS. If the EWS does not display, try another browser.
In the EWS, click the Network or Networking tab, open the Wireless menu option, and then click IPv4 Configuration.
Select Manual IP, and then provide your printer information.
To auto-fill all fields, click Suggest a Manual IP Address, and then make sure the fields for Manual IP Address, Manual Subnet Mask, and Manual Default Gateway match your printer's information on the Network Configuration Page.
If Suggest a Manual IP Address is not available, type the information from the Network Configuration Page into the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway fields.
Click Apply, and then wait until the changes are confirmed.
Use the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer homepage to connect your printer to a local network.
Place the printer close to your computer or mobile device and to the wireless router.
Turn on the printer, and then make sure ink cartridges are installed and paper is loaded in the tray.

From the Network menu, select Wireless (802.11), and then select Wireless Setup Wizard.
Follow the instructions to select your local network and enter the password to complete the connection.
Reconnect to your local Wi-Fi network after completing the printer setup.
When changing a setting from the printer homepage, your web browser might display a Redirecting to Secure Page and a This site is not secure message. Opening the homepage does not expose your computer to security threats.
On the Redirecting to Secure Page window, click OK.
In the This Connection is Not Private or This site is not secure window, click Show Details, More Information, or Advanced.
At the bottom of the window, click Visit this website, Go on to the webpage, or Proceed to [Printer IP address].
For scan-enabled printers, you can scan documents and photos using WebScan over a network connection. No additional software or drivers are required.
Place the original on the scanner glass or into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
The ADF mechanism can damage photos. To copy or scan photos, use an alternate method, such as the scanner glass or your mobile device camera with the HP Smart app.
Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your device.
Choose one of the following methods to open the advanced settings for your printer.
HP Smart app: Click the image of your printer to open the settings and management tools, and then click Advanced Settings under Settings.
Printer EWS: Open the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS) using the printer IP address.
If you are prompted to log in or enter the printer PIN, enter admin for the username (HP LaserJets only), enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit or OK. This label is typically located inside the cartridge access area or printer door.
Click Scan. A You cannot use this function because it has been disabled message displays.
Click Settings > Security > Administrator Settings.
If you are prompted to go to a secure HTTPS-enabled webpage, click OK or Redirect to HTTPS.
If a Your connection is not private message displays, click Advanced > Proceed to [Printer IP address].
In the Administrator Settings, locate and select the box next to WebScan or WebScan from EWS, click Apply > OK.
Return to the Scan menu, select the scan preferences, click Start Scan, and then follow the instructions to save the scan.
Use the printer homepage to check for and install printer firmware updates.
On the printer homepage, click Tools or Web Services.
Click Printer Updates or Product Updates, and then click Check Now.
