HP Printers and Scanners - Set up and use the HP JetAdvantage Capture app to scan documents from an Android mobile device

HP JetAdvantage Capture is a free mobile app that allows you to scan or capture documents or photos using an Android phone or tablet, and then sends the scan job to a compatible HP printer or scanner that is connected to the same network as your mobile device, or scan files directly to cloud destinations.
This app provides the following features:
  • digitize common scan workflows, such as Scan to email.
  • scan to cloud destinations, such as Dropbox, Google drive or Box.
  • create shortcuts to your scan destinations.
  • utilize scan replays.
Follow the instructions in the below steps to set up and use the HP JetAdvantage Capture app:
Step one: Review the requirements
Before installing the HP JetAdvantage Capture app, preview the following requirements:
  • An Android smartphone or tablet with Android OS 4.1 or newer.
  • An HP scanner (ScanJet) or HP Multifunction Printer (MFP) connected via Wi-Fi Direct or connected to the same network as your mobile device.
  • A Google account to download the app from the Google Play Store.
Step two: Download the app on your mobile device
Follow these steps to download the app on your mobile device:
  1. On your phone or tablet, tap the Google Play Store, and then tap Apps.
  2. In the Search feature, type HP JetAdvantage Capture.
  3. Sign in using your Google email address and password.
  4. Tap Install, and then tap Open it.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts of the HP JetAdvantage Capture app wizard to use the app, OR, tap or swipe the mobile device screen to clear the wizard prompts.
  6. On the Send usage info to HP check box, disable or enable this setting, and then tap OK.
    • To disable this setting, tap to clear the check mark in the check box.
    • To enable the setting, tap to select the check box. A check mark indicates that the option is enabled.

Step three: Scan documents or capture images
 note:
The shortcut wizard is an optional feature to configure device settings. To use the app wizard, tap the wizard wand icon () located on the upper-right hand corner of the app.
After installing the HP JetAdvantage Capture app, select one of the following options:

Make sure that your HP printer or scanner (HP product) is turned on and is connected to the same wireless network as the mobile device.
Option one: Scan
Load the documents into the HP printer or scanner, and then follow these steps to scan a document from the HP product using your mobile device:
  1. Tap the Scan option.

  2. Tap the grey text area “Touch here to select” to display a list of printers or scanners, and then tap to select an HP printer or scanner.
     note:
    If the HP product is connected to a network and available for use, the last printer or scanner used by the mobile device displays in a green text area.
    To change the selected HP product, tap the selected HP product, and then select an HP printer or scanner from the displayed list.

  3. Make changes to the default scan settings, if required.
    1. Tap the Settings icon ().
    2. Select the available options displayed on the Settings screen, and then tap the back arrow ().

  4. Tap Scan.
  5. On the scanned document, edit using the edit tools or add more scans (), and then select a destination to send the file ().
     note:
    After a scan job is complete, the status of the scan displays on the notification task bar of the mobile device.
    Edit a scanned document
    Tap the scanned document, click on any of the edit tools located on the top menu bar, and then tap the blue check mark ().

    Add more scans
    To scan more documents, tap the plus icon (), and then edit the scanned document, if required.
    Select a destination and file type to send the document
    Tap the Send icon (), and then complete the following steps to send the document:
    1. Select destinations
      1. On the Select a destination section, tap to select one of the destinations.
      2. Sign-in and type your password in the third-party destination account (Google or Dropbox, for example).
      3. Select the appropriate folder in the third-party destination to save the scanned document, and then tap the check mark ().
    2. Select the File Output Type
      Select one of the following options to save the output file:
      • Each page as an individual JPG: Use this option to save a single scanned image.
      • Single PDF document: Use this option to save multiple scanned images as a single PDF file.
    3. Tap the Send icon () to send the file.

  6. To save the above set of scanned steps (workflow) performed on your mobile device, see Step four (Optional): Save the shortcut as a “Replay Scan” or “Replay Capture” on your mobile device.
Option two: Capture
 note:
Use this option to capture the document or image using your mobile device.
Follow these steps to take a photo of the document or image using your mobile device camera:
  1. Tap the Capture option, and then take a photo of the document or image you want to scan.
  2. On the scanned image, drag the blue dots to adjust the borders or tap the adjust border icon (), and then tap the blue arrow ().
  3. Edit the image, if required.
  4. On the scanned document, add more scans (), if required, and then select a destination to send the file ().
     note:
    After a scan job is complete, the status of the scan displays on the notification task bar of the mobile device.

Step four (Optional): Save the shortcut as a “Replay Scan” or “Replay Capture” on your mobile device
Follow these steps to save the scan workflow as a shortcut on your mobile device:
  1. After saving the scanned document to a destination, tap the menu icon () from Replay Scan or Replay Capture.
  2. Tap Save as..., and then type the name of the file to be displayed on the mobile device, and tap Save.
  3. To edit the saved file, tap the Menu icon (), tap Edit, modify the selections in the saved file, and then tap the blue arrow .
    Edit the shortcut name, or select a different printer, or edit any of the selected scanning options, if required.
    The scanned file will be saved on your mobile device.
