Solution
Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and printhead slot on the carriage as described below.
  1. Make sure the printer is plugged in and the power is turned on.
  2. When the printer is at a Ready state, open the cartridge and printhead access door on the right-side of the printer.
      caution:
Keep hands and clothing away from the printhead carriage as the carriage will move towards the center of the printer, then back to the right-side for printhead access.
  3. Once the printhead carriage has come to a complete stop on the right-side of the printer, unplug the power cable from the printer.
  4. Open the printhead cover on the carriage by pulling upwards and towards you.
  5. Release the printhead cover from the latch, and open printhead cover to access the problematic printhead(s).
  6. Remove the necessary printhead(s) by lifting the printhead handle and pulling the printhead straight up.
  7. Ensure that no tape is covering the printhead nozzles or electrical contacts, and remove as necessary.

  8. Gather the appropriate cleaning materials:
    • Any clean, soft, lint-free material that will not come apart or leave fibers behind when wet (coffee filters work well)
    • Enough distilled, filtered, or bottled water to moisten the cloth. Avoid using tap water, which could contain damaging contaminants
    • Paper towels, or sheets of paper to rest the printheads on during cleaning
  9. Gently wipe the printhead contacts with a dry, clean, soft, lint-free cloth.
  10. If some residue remains, slightly moisten the cloth with distilled, filtered, or bottled water and continue wiping until the contacts are clean.

  11. After cleaning, place the printhead(s) on a paper towel.
  12. Clean the contacts of the corresponding printhead(s) inside the carriage with a dampened, clean, soft, lint-free cloth.

  13. Before re-inserting the printheads, make sure all the electrical contacts have had at least five minutes to dry.
  14. Insert the affected printhead(s) into the correct slot in the printhead carriage (each slot is color coded to match the appropriate colored printhead).

  15. Close the printhead carriage cover, and make sure the loop catches the hook as shown below.

  16. Push the carriage cover back and down to snap carriage cover into place.
  17. Close the right-side cover.
  18. Plug in the power cable and turn the printer on.
  19. The printer will attempt to perform the printhead alignment procedure.
  20. If the problem persists, replace the indicated printhead(s).
