  1. Pull out the photo tray slider until it stops. This disengages the photo tray.
  2. Lift the paper catch.
  3. Pull out the photo tray paper length guide and slide the photo tray paper width guide as far to the left as it will go.
  4. Place approximately 15 sheets of photo paper in the photo tray with the side to be printed facing down. When using tabbed paper, insert the paper so the tab feeds in last. The printed photo will face up on the paper catch (see Figure 1).

Load 4 x 6 inch (10 x 15 cm) photo paper into the photo cassette of an HP Photosmart 7260, 7450, 7850, and 8050 printer

Use the photo cassette to load 4 x 6 inch (10 x 15 cm) paper. To print borderless photos, use 4 x 6 inch photo paper with a 0.5 inch tab (10 x 15 cm with 1.25 cm tab). This allows the photo to print without borders on three sides and with a small border on the bottom edge that can be torn off. HP does not recommend printing borderless photos on plain paper. Also, remove any paper from the In tray before inserting the photo cassette into the printer.
Click the play button above to see a demonstration of these steps on loading 4 x 6 photo paper in the photo cassette.
  1. Lift the top cover of the printer and remove the photo cassette from the sheath (see figure 3 item 1).
  2. Place up to 15 sheets of photo paper in the photo cassette with the side to be printed facing down. For tabbed paper, insert the paper so the tabbed end goes into the cassette first (see Figure 2).

  7. Gently slide the photo cassette into the printer until it snaps into place (see Figure 3).

  9. Slide the paper width guide to the right until it cradles the photo cassette, then close the main cover.

Load 4 x 6 inch (10 x 15 cm) photo paper into an HP Photosmart 145 or 245 printer

During printing, the printer pushes the paper partially through the rear paper slot on the back of the printer and then pulls it back through to the front of the printer. Make sure the back of the printer is at least 10 inches (250 mm) away from any obstruction and that the power cord and USB cable do not block the rear paper path.
  1. Open the paper tray door and push it down as far as it will go.
  2. Place a stack of paper on the paper tray and slide it underneath the output guide.
    note:
The printer prints on the side of the paper that is facing up. Load photo paper with the glossy side up. Load tabbed photo paper so the tab feeds into the printer first. Load 10 to 20 sheets of photo paper or index cards. Use one type and size of paper at a time. Do not mix paper types or sizes in the paper tray.
  3. Move the paper width guide on the paper tray so that the paper is securely positioned under the output guide and as close to the left edge of the paper as possible without bending the paper (see Figure 4).

Load 4 x 6 inch (10 x 15 cm) photo paper into an HP Photosmart 325 or 375 printer

During printing, the printer draws the paper from the rear paper slot on the back of the printer. To load paper in the printer, follow the steps below.
  1. Turn on the printer. Both the front paper out tray and the rear paper in tray should open when the printer is turned on. If both trays do not open automatically, open them manually by pulling on the raised tab on the front and rear panels of the printer.
  2. Insert the paper with the printable surface facing towards the front of the printer with the tab (if any) on top.
