OMEN by HP and HP ENVY Desktop PCs - Upgrading the top fan

On many OMEN by HP and HP ENVY Desktop PCs, you can install a 120 mm × 120 mm top fan.

Install the top fan

Use this procedure to install the top fan into the computer.

  1. Remove the left side access panel.

  2. Position the computer on its side.

  3. Find the top fan bracket on the inside top of the computer.

  4. Remove the two screws that secure the bracket.

  5. Remove the bracket from the computer.

  6. Insert a Philips screwdriver into the plus signs (+) on each fan plate, and then twist the screwdriver to release the four plates from the bracket.

    CAUTION:

    To prevent injury, use gloves when performing this procedure. The fan plates can have sharp edges.

  7. Place the fan onto the bracket, and then secure the fan with four screws in the back of the bracket.

  8. Place the fan assembly onto the inside wall of the computer, and then secure the bracket to the computer with two screws.

    Note:

    To prevent overheating, be sure that you position the fans so that air flows out of the computer. Arrows on the fans indicate the airflow direction.

  9. Connect the fan cable to an empty four-pin fan power connector on the system board. If an empty fan power connector is not available, connect a Y cable to a populated fan power connector to power the addition fan.

  10. Be sure that you route the fan power cable inside the computer so that it does not interfere with the fan blades.

  11. Install the left side access panel.
