The copy and scan features on your printer have a 2-sided ID option to scan both sides of an identification card (or other small-size document) onto the same side of one sheet of paper. The printer scans one side of the ID card, prompts to turn the ID card over, and then scans again.
If you want to print the scanned page, use the copy feature.
If you want to save or send the scanned page to the printer memory or to another destination, use the scan feature.
The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

In FutureSmart firmware version 4.7 and newer, there are additional options to scan an ID card and save the scanned file to a network folder or USB flash drive, or you can send the file directly to one or more email addresses.
If your printer has an older firmware version installed, upgrade your firmware to gain access to these additional scan features and other enhanced features on the printer.
For instructions to upgrade the firmware on your printer, go to support.hp.com, and then enter your printer model in the search box. On the support page for your printer model, click How To, click the Select a topic drop-down menu, and then click Printer Setup, Installation & Updates.
