HP printer not found during printer setup
The HP software cannot access your printer during the connection setup process with a mobile device or computer.

Restart your printer and computer.

Enable the Wi-Fi setup mode.
When you turn on your printer for the first time, Wi-Fi setup mode is automatically turned on so the printer can be discovered during setup. For security reasons, Wi-Fi setup mode turns off after two hours. In case, you have disabled the Wi-Fi setup mode by accident, you need to restore the Wi-Fi setup mode. For more information, go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer.

Connect your computer or mobile device to the same wireless or wired network that you would like to connect your printer to.
Keep your computer or mobile device connected to your Wi-Fi or wired network during setup using HP Smart. Do not connect to printer’s Wi-Fi signal HP=Setup<XXXX>.

(Computer users only) Turn on Wi-Fi on the computer even if your computer is connected to the network by a wired connection.
If your computer is unable to turn on the Wi-Fi while you are on a wired connection, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable temporarily and switch to wireless or rely on Bluetooth for HP Smart to find your printer.

Turn on Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device.
HP Smart detects the printer using Bluetooth during setup.
Note:If your computer does not have either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, switch to your mobile device and connect your printer to your Wi-Fi network using HP Smart on iOS or Android.

(Mobile users only) Go to Settings and enable Location on your mobile device.

(Mobile users only) Go to Settings and allow HP Smart to access Bluetooth and Location.

Move the printer and computer or mobile device close to each other (within eight meters) for better network connectivity. Also, make sure your wireless signal is strong in the area where you have placed your computer and printer.

Reinstall the HP Smart app from the App store and try to add your printer again.

If the issue persists, restart your router, wait for your computer or mobile device to reconnect to your wired or wireless network, and then try to add the printer again using HP Smart.

Connect your printer to the same wired or wireless network as your computer or mobile device and make sure the connection is successful.
Some printers might take a minute to connect and establish an IP address. Look out for Ethernet icon
or Wi-Fi icon
and light to turn solid on the printer control panel display. Also, check the lights on the printer's Ethernet port. The green light should be steady and the orange activity light should blink. If the connection is not established check for loose connection or damaged cable.

Reconnect the cable to a different LAN port on the router or access point.

Add the printer manually using the IP address.

Troubleshoot adding printer that is already connected by USB
Check network issues and other setup requirements if your USB printer is not found during setup.
Try to set up the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.
If you have an HP+ printer, you must connect it to your network and register it to your HP Account to receive the HP+ benefits. If you try to set up an HP+ printer using USB, the HP Smart app will prompt you to switch connection to a Wi-Fi or Ethernet method to activate the HP+ benefits and connect the printer to the internet. You cannot activate HP+ using USB during setup.

Allow Windows Updates to complete the driver installation.
Windows Update automatically starts the driver installation process after you connect your printer with the computer. The drivers installation might take 1 to 15 minutes. You can check the driver installation status from Control Panel > Devices & Printers.

Make sure your Windows OS is current, install any updates available.

Connect the printer directly into the computer USB port, do not use a USB hub.

Make sure the cable is in working condition and there is no loose connection.
If the cable is damaged or longer than 3 m (9 ft 10 in), replace the cable.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor on your Windows computer to help diagnose and fix printing and scanning issues.

Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray, and then turn on the printer.

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor, and then follow the prompts to install and open the tool.

On the welcome screen, click Start to select your printer and run the diagnostic.

If your printer is not found, click My product is not listed, and then follow the instructions troubleshoot the connection.
Uninstall HP print driver and use HP Smart (Windows)
Uninstall the HP print driver and install and use HP Smart on a Windows computer.

Disconnect any USB cables from the printer.

In Windows, search for and open Add or remove programs.

Look for your HP printer name in the list of programs.

If you find your printer, click the printer name, and then click Uninstall.

If you do not find your printer, search for and open Printers & scanners, click your printer, and then click Remove device.

If a User Account Control message displays, click Yes.

Follow the instructions to complete the software removal, and then restart the computer.

Try opening a website to see if the internet connection is working properly. If Wi-Fi is slow or intermittent, restart the router by disconnecting the power cord, waiting 15 seconds, and then reconnecting the cord.

Printer is off or in sleep mode: Touch the control panel or press the Power button to wake the printer and put it in a ready state. Sometimes the printer status might display Offline when it is actually ready.

Check the printer connection status: Make sure the wireless signal is on, and the printer is connected to the same network as your computer or mobile device. If your printer has a light next to a Wireless icon or button
, make sure the light is on. If it is off or blinks, the printer is disconnected from the network.

HP Deskjet 6000 and 6400, ENVY 6000 and 6400, and Tango printers: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button
and the Power button on the back of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process begins. The blue bar stops flashing when the connection completes.

Reset the print system (Mac)
Resetting the print system can clear any error states by removing all HP and non-HP printers, pending print jobs, and printer preferences.
Resetting the print system removes all printers. After you reset the print system, re-add your printers to the queue.
