HP Color LaserJet Pro M180 Printers - Wireless Printer Setup (Windows)

This document is for computers with Windows and HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw and M181fw printers.
To set up an HP printer on a wireless (Wi-Fi) network, install the print driver and software from the HP website. When prompted during the installation, select Wireless as the connection type.

Step 1: Prepare for installation

Before installing the printer software and connecting to your wireless network, check the requirements, turn on the computer and the router, and set up the printer.
  1. Gather the following items:
    • Network name: The network name is the SSID.
    • Network password (WEP key or WPA security passphrase)
    • A computer connected to your wireless network
    • Internet access (recommended): HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
    • Your wireless-capable printer: Place your printer close to the computer during the installation.
    • USB cable: The installer might prompt you to connect a USB cable.
  2. Make sure the printer, router, and computer are all turned on, and that the computer is connected to the same wireless network to which you are connecting the printer.
  3. Set up the printer, load paper into the input tray, and install the toner cartridges. For more information about setting up the printer, go to First Time Printer Setup.
  4. Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cables from the printer.

Step 2: Connect the printer to the wireless network

Use Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) to connect the printer so the HP installer can find the printer during the installation. Consult your wireless router manual to confirm if it supports the WPS push button connection type.
If your router does not support WPS, skip to the next step to download and install the driver.
  1. On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button .
  2. Release thebutton when the wireless light starts blinking.
  3. Within two minutes, press and release the WPS button on your wireless router.
  4. Wait up to two minutes while the printer and router establish a network connection.
After the printer connects to the network, the wireless light is on and steady.

Step 3: Download and install the print driver

Download and install the most current version of the full feature printer software from the HP website.
As an alternative method to downloading the software, you can use the installation CD.
  1. Disconnect any USB cables from the printer.
  2. Go to 123.hp.com/laserjet, and then click Download to download and run HP Easy Start.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection setup and driver installation.
    • If HP Easy Start finds multiple printers, select the printer you want to install, and then continue with the on-screen instructions.
    • If HP Easy Start does not find your printer, follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to the network.
If the installer still does not find your printer, go to Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Windows) for detailed troubleshooting steps.
  4. Return to the 123.hp.com page in your web browser to complete the printer registration and activation.
