Remove and Replace the Wireless Module on the HP Pavilion x2 Detachable 12-b000 Notebook

Before you begin

  • Have available a non-marring flat-bladed prying tool and tweezers or pliers.
  • Turn off the computer. Disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable. Disconnect the power cord.
  • Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
  • HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
  • Do not remove a component from its protective packaging until you are ready to install it.
  warning:
Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting. Before starting, power off the computer and wait for components to cool before starting these procedures.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the wireless module

Depending on your notebook's configuration, you may have either a WLAN or WLAN/Bluetooth Combo module. However, the removal and replacement of these modules is identical.
Use the steps in this section to remove the wireless module.
Step 1
Remove the display panel assembly.

Carefully disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the wireless module by grasping the connector with a small pair of needle nose pliers or tweezers.
note:
Make careful note of which terminal the wireless antenna cables are connected to on the wireless module for later replacement.

Remove the 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the wireless module to the display enclosure.

Grasp the wireless module by the edges and pull gently to remove it.

Place the wireless module in a static dissipative bag.

Replacing the wireless module

Use the steps in this section to replace the wireless module.
Step 1
Grasping the wireless module by the edges, align the notch in the wireless module with the key in the wireless module slot on the system board.

Gently insert the wireless module into its slot on the system board.
