HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M855, M651 and HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M880, M680 - Replace the DIMM

Introduction

This document provides the procedures to remove and replace the DIMM for the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M855 and HP Color LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M880.

Before you begin

Required tools
  • No special tools are required to install this kit.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, place the product on an ESD mat (if available), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface. If an ESD workstation or mat is not available, ground yourself by touching the sheet-metal chassis before touching an ESD-sensitive part.

Step 1 - Remove the Formatter

  1. Do the following:
    1. Turn off the product.
    2. Disconnect the power cable.
        warning:
      To avoid damage to the product, turn the product off, wait five seconds, and then remove the power cord before attempting to service the product.
    3. Disconnect all cables and accessories attached to the formatter.
  2. Loosen the two thumbscrews on the formatter, and then pull the formatter out of the product.

Step 2- Remove the DIMM

  caution:
ESD-sensitive part.
  1. Locate the DIMM that is installed on the formatter.

  2. Release the two clips on either side by gently pulling them away from each other.

  3. Rotate the DIMM upward, and then remove it.
    note:
    Set this part aside. It will be installed on the replacement formatter.

Step 3 - Unpack the Replacement DIMM

Unpack the replacement DIMM from the packaging.

ESD-sensitive part.
note:
HP recommends responsible disposal of the defective DIMM.

Step 4 - Install the Replacement DIMM

  caution:
ESD-sensitive part.
  1. Carefully insert the DIMM at an angle into the holder on the formatter.
    note:
    Position the DIMM so that the slot in the DIMM is aligned with the tab in the holder.

  2. Rotate the DIMM in the direction of the arrow to install it.

  3. When the DIMM is installed make sure that the retaining clips on the right and left sides of the DIMM snap into place.

Step 5 - Reinstall the Formatter

  caution:
ESD-sensitive part.
  1. Align the formatter with the guides at the top and bottom of the formatter cage and push the formatter into the slot until it is fully seated.

  2. Finger-tighten the two thumbscrews.

Step 6 - Test the Installation

  1. Do the following:
    1. Reconnect all cables to the formatter.
    2. Plug in the power cord.
  2. Turn on the product.
    To verify that the formatter is correctly installed, observe the following functions of the LEDs on the formatter:
    • The heartbeat LED (callout 1) illuminates if the formatter is functioning correctly.
      • While the product is initializing, the heartbeat LED illuminates solid red for about one second, and then turns solid green for about twenty seconds.
      • After the initialization sequence is complete, the heartbeat LED blinks continuously if the printer is functioning correctly.
    • The connectivity LED (callout 2) indicates that the formatter is completely seated. It illuminates green when the product power is turned on and stays green if the formatter is properly seated.
    If the LEDs do not correctly function, turn the product power off, remove the formatter, and then reinstall it (make sure that the formatter is fully seated before tightening the thumbscrews).
