HP ProBook 6450b Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Optical Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the optical drive for the HP ProBook 6450b Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver.

Optical drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. note:
    The video shown depicts a different model of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to this notebook.
  3. On the bottom of the notebook, loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the optical drive to the bottom of the base enclosure.
  4. Use a small, flat-bladed tool to push out on the metal tab on the rear of the optical drive to partially eject it from the base enclosure.
  5. Grasp the optical drive bezel and pull the optical drive out of the base enclosure.

Optical drive replacement

  1. Insert the optical drive into the base enclosure until its connector is firmly seated.
  2. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the optical drive to the bottom of the base enclosure.
