Replacing the printheads

Follow these steps to remove the old printheads, and then install the replacement printheads.

Step one: Load the paper tray

Follow these steps to load paper into the main tray (paper tray 1).
  1. Lift the output tray until it locks in an open position.
  2. Pull the bottom of the tray toward you until it stops.
  3. Slide the paper width guides to their outermost positions.
  4. Insert up to 250 sheets of plain white paper in the center of the tray, with the print side down and short edge forward. Make sure that the stack of paper aligns with the engraved lines in the tray.

Step two: Remove the old printhead

  1. Open the carriage access lid.
  2. Touch Change Printheads on the product control panel. The carriage moves to the access area on the left side of the product. Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
Do not proceed until the carriage is on the left side of the printer. If the carriage does not move to the left automatically, turn the printer off and on, and then touch Change Printheads on the product control panel again. The printhead can be damaged if the carriage is not all the way to the left for installation.
  3. Lift the printhead latch.
