Setting up the All-in-One

Follow these steps in order.

Step one: Unpack the All-in-One

Follow these steps to unpack the product.
  1. Remove all tape and packing materials outside the product.

  2. Lift the product lid, and then remove all tape and packing materials inside the product and on the paper tray.

  3. Remove all tape and packing materials from the rear of the product.

Step two: Attach the control panel faceplate

If the control panel faceplate is not already installed, follow these steps to install it.
  1. Find the faceplate in the box, and then remove it from its packing material.

  2. Hold the faceplate above the product, and then position it so it fits over the buttons.
  3. Press down on the faceplate to snap it into place.

Step three: Install the two-sided printing accessory (duplexer)

If your model includes a two-sided printing accessory (duplexer), follow these steps to install it.
  1. Find the duplexer in the box, and then remove it from its packing material. Remove any tape from the duplexer.

  2. Turn the product to access its rear side.
  3. Hold the duplexer by its sides with the rollers toward the product, and then insert it into the slot on the rear of the product.
    note:
    Look for the engraved arrows on the duplexer for help positioning it.

  4. Push the duplexer into the product until it snaps into place.

Step four: Connect the power cord

  1. Turn the product to access its rear side.
  2. Plug the power cord into the rear of the product.

  3. Connect the power cord to the power supply.

  4. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

Step five: Load plain white paper

  1. Lift the output tray.

  2. Insert the stack of paper print-side down along the right side of the paper tray.
  3. Adjust the paper-width guide so it rests against the edge of the paper.

  4. Close the output tray.
  5. Pull out the extension on the output tray, and then open the paper catch at the end of the output tray extension.

Step six: Turn the All-in-One on

Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

Step seven: Set the control panel language

If the language on the control panel defaults to a language other than what you prefer, follow these steps to set it.
  1. Press the Setup button (Setup button) repeatedly until Preference displays, and then press OK.
  2. Press OK to select Set Language & Country/Region.
  3. Press the Right Arrow button (Right Arrow button) until the desired language displays, and then type the associated numbers on the keypad.
  4. Press 1 to accept the language setting.

Step eight: Install the printhead

Follow these steps to install the printhead.

  1. Open the cartridge access door.

  2. Lift the gray latch on the printhead assembly.

  3. Remove the printhead from its packaging.

      caution:
    Do not touch the copper-colored contacts. Do not let the contacts touch any surface and be careful not to scratch the contacts while inserting the ink cartridges.
  4. Hold the printhead upright, with the color-coded icons facing up.

  5. Lower the printhead into the product so that the purple and green blocks on the printhead align with the purple and green blocks on the product.

  6. Slowly lower the gray latch.

Step nine: Install the cartridges

Follow these steps to install the cartridges.

  1. On one of the cartridges, pull the orange pull-tabstraight back to remove the plastic wrap.

  2. Twist the orange cap counterclockwise to snap it off the cartridge.

  3. With the cartridge contacts facing the printhead, slide the cartridge into the correct slot. The color-coded icons on the cartridge and in the printhead indicate the correct slot.

  4. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks firmly into place.

  5. Repeat these steps for each cartridge.
  6. Close the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the right side of the product.
  7. Wait for the product to align the cartridges and print an alignment page. This process takes about 10 minutes.

    note:
    Mechanical noises during alignment are normal.
