HP xw6600 Workstation - Diagnostic LED Codes

Issue:
The Workstation Power-On Self-Test (POST) fails, and the system emits Beep and LED Codes (Diagnostic Codes).
Solution
Use the Diagnostic LED Code to isolate the failure.
note:
Workstation beeps are emitted from the chassis speaker. The flashing lights and beeps repeat for five cycles. After five cycles, only the flashing lights repeat.
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 2 times (once per second), then a 2–second pause follows, and then it beeps 2 times:
This indicates that a thermal shutdown has occurred.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Ensure that the workstation air vents are not blocked.
  2. Open the access panel, and press the workstation power button.
  3. Verify that the system fan is running.
  4. Verify that the processor heatsink fan spins. If it does not spin, ensure that the fan cable is plugged into the system board connector. Ensure that the heatsink is properly seated.
  5. Replace the processor heatsink.
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 3 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows, and then it beeps 3 times:
This indicates that the processor is not installed.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Install the processor.
  2. Reseat the processor.
  3. If the issue persists, replace the processor.
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 4 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows, and then it beeps 4 times:
This indicates power failure.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Perform the power supply self-test.
  2. Open the access panel, and ensure that the necessary power supply cables are connected to the system board.
  3. Locate a faulty device by removing all devices, and then reinstalling one at a time until the workstation fails:
    1. Disconnect AC power to the workstation.
    2. Remove all the devices.
    3. Reinstall a device.
    4. Reconnect AC power.
Replace the device causing the failure. Continue adding devices to ensure that all devices are functioning properly.
  4. Verify the power supply functionality.
    1. Disconnect AC power.
    2. Remove all internal power supply cables from the system board.
    3. Plug in AC power.
If the power supply fan spins, and the LED illuminates, then the power supply is good. Replace the system board.
If the power supply fan does not spin, or the LED does not illuminate, then replace the power supply.
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 5 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows, and then it beeps 5 times:
This indicates a pre-video memory error.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Ensure that the memory modules are loaded correctly in pairs.
  2. Reseat the memory modules.
  3. Replace the memory modules one at a time to find the faulty module.
  4. Replace the third-party modules with HP memory.
  5. Replace the system board.
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 6 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows, and then it beeps 6 times:
This indicates a pre-video graphic card error.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Reseat the graphics card. Turn on the workstation.
  2. Replace the graphic card.
  3. Replace the system board.
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 7 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows, and then it beeps 7 times:
This indicates system board failure (ROM detected a failure before video).
To resolve the issue, replace the system board.
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 8 times (once per second), then follows a 2-second pause, and then it beeps 8 times:
This indicates an invalid system ROM based on bad checksum and entering FailSafe (Boot Block) recovery mode.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Reflash the system ROM. (FailSafe Boot Block ROM Recovery)
  2. Replace the system board.
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 9 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows, and then it beeps 9 times:
This indicates that the system is turned on, but is unable to boot.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Replace the system board.
  2. Replace the processor.
