HP Designjet 8000/9000/10000 Series Printers - Heater Settings

Issue:
The printer includes three heaters for fixing and stabilizing the printed image on the media. Each heater is controlled separately. The front heater pre-heats the media. The print heater (center platen) fixes the ink on the media. The rear heater dries the ink on the media and stabilizes the printed image. This is information on how heater settings work; set from the printer front panel or from the RIP.
Solution
How Heater Settings Work:
Normal/Default operation of Designjet 8000/9000/10000-Series Printers' Heaters is controlled by the RIP Software. At the beginning of each print job, the RIP sends the heater settings to the printer and resets the heaters to the values set in the Media Options of the RIP. In the Onyx Postershop RIP, for example, unchecking the RIP Temperature causes the RIP to not send the heater information for that heater to the RIP and the value on the heater panel will not change when a new job is sent to the printer.
In order for the RIP to control the heaters, the HEATER PREF setting under the MEDIA REG Menu (on the front panel of the printer) must be set to SOFTWARE.
Printer Control of the Heater:
Under the MEDIA REG Menu on the front panel of the printer are four heater-related settings. These are FRONT HEATER T, PRINT HEATER T, REAR HEATER T, and HEATER PREF.
When media is loaded, the heater panel settings are set to the values that are present under the MEDIA REG Menu.
When HEATER PREF is set to FRONT PANEL, the heater panel setting can only be changed by changing the front panel or selecting a new media type when loading media.
note:
Printing the CONFIG PRINT will show all the heater setting's current status.
