HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise - Enable the Reset Firmware feature before or during a firmware update

The Reset Firmware feature is now available in the latest firmware releases of HP FutureSmart 4 and 5.

When enabled, the printer will perform a firmware reset prior to upgrading the device firmware. This reset erases virtually all saved settings, stored jobs, and solutions, but preserves critical settings needed to remotely recover the device. This feature ensures a clean firmware update and removes any potential configurations that might not be compatible with the latest firmware feature set or security changes. This feature can also be useful if an administrator is unsure of the device configuration.

Enable the Reset Firmware feature

The Reset Firmware feature can be enabled before or during the firmware upgrade process.

To enable the feature, use the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS) or HP WebJetAdmin.

Enable the Reset Firmware feature using the EWS

To activate the feature using the EWS, follow these steps.

Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS).
1. Open a web browser and, in the address bar, type the IP address or host name and then press Enter.
2. If prompted that the connection is not private or that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue or proceed to the website. Accessing this website will not harm the computer.
Log in using administrator credentials.
Select the Troubleshooting tab.
Select Firmware Upgrade from the left navigation pane.
Click Choose File, navigate to and select the firmware file.
Select the Reset Firmware check box to enable the feature.

Click Install to continue with the firmware upgrade.

The reset is automatically applied prior to the upgrade and a Secure Job Erase will also be performed. When the printer reboots, the status of the reset and job erase display on the initial setup screens. These setup screens can be acknowledged either at the device or remotely with the Remote-Control panel feature found in the left navigation pane on the Information tab of the EWS.

Enable the Reset Firmware feature using HP Web Jetadmin

To activate the feature using HP Web Jetadmin, follow these steps.

Open HP Web Jetadmin.
Use the Device Discovery feature to access the printer.
Create a template to apply to the printer.
Use the Config tab to access the feature.
Choose the Firmware Directed Update Create choice.
Select the Reset Firmware check box to enable the feature.
Define the parameters for the Directed update.

Select Reset Firmware in Directed Update Create of Web Jetadmin
Apply the template to the printer.

Applicable printers

HP Enterprise and HP Managed printers running the latest version of HP FutureSmart 4 and 5.
