HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise - Set up, install, and configure an HP Jetdirect 3000w NFC/Wireless or a 3100w BLE/NFC/Wireless Accessory
Learn how to set up, install, and configure the HP Jetdirect 3000w NFC/Wireless or 3100w BLE/NFC/Wireless Accessory to print wirelessly to a supported HP printer using Wireless Direct or Near-Field Communication (NFC).
For a list of supported HP printers, go to HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP OfficeJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise - Printers that can use HP Jetdirect print servers and NFC/wireless accessories.

Step one: Update the printer firmware
To ensure printer compatibility and maintain regulatory compliance, first update the printer firmware.
Step two: Connect the HP Jetdirect to the printer
Use one of the methods below to set up and install the HP Jetdirect accessory.
The method you choose will depend on whether or not the printer has a Hardware Integration Pocket (HIP2).
Step three: Verify that the HP Jetdirect is installed correctly
Use the printer control panel to verify that the HP Jetdirect accessory is installed correctly.
The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

FutureSmart 3: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, look for the Wireless icon
. If the icon is displayed, then HP Jetdirect is installed correctly.

FutureSmart 4: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Information icon
. If the Wireless icon
displays in the Information menu, then HP Jetdirect is installed correctly.
If the wireless icon is not displayed on the printer control panel, check that the USB cable is securely connected to the HP Jetdirect and to the printer.
After connecting the HP Jetdirect to the printer, the printer will appear in the wireless network list as the name of the accessory (Wireless HP Jetdirect 3000w or 3100w), or as "DIRECT-xx-HP..."
Step four: Enable Wireless Direct printing
Wireless Direct printing is typically enabled by default after the initial installation of the HP Jetdirect.
To confirm that Wireless Direct printing is enabled on the printer, choose one of the methods below, and then follow the steps provided.
To set a password for secure printing, or to manage other features, go to HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise - Manage an HP Jetdirect 3000w NFC/Wireless or 3100w BLE/NFC/Wireless Accessory.
Step five: Configure additional settings for the HP Jetdirect (optional)
There are additional (optional) settings that can be configured for the HP Jetdirect using the Embedded Web Server (EWS). The optional settings include enabling Near-Field Communication (NFC), changing the Wireless Direct printer name (SSID), and configuring security.
To access the Embedded Web Server (EWS), you must have the HP Jetdirect IP address. Locate the HP Jetdirect IP address on the printer control panel using the following steps.

FutureSmart 3: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press or touch the Wireless icon
to display the IP address or host name.

FutureSmart 4: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press or touch the Information icon
, and then select the Wireless icon
to display the IP address or host name.
Refer to the sections below for information on how to configure the optional settings for the HP Jetdirect.
Enable Near Field Communication (NFC)
NFC printing is disabled by default. To enable NFC on the printer, configure the setting in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) using the steps below.

Change the Wireless Direct printer name (SSID)
The Wireless Direct printer name (SSID) is used to identify your printer when connecting from a Wi-Fi compatible device.

Choose one of the methods below to change the Wireless Direct printer name (SSID).
Method one: Use the printer control panel to change the Wireless Direct printer name
Use this method to change the Wireless Direct printer name (SSID) from the printer control panel.

Find your printer control-panel type in the options below and then follow the instructions to change the Wireless Direct printer name.
Method two: Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to change the Wireless Direct printer name
Use this method to change the Wireless Direct printer name (SSID) in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Configure security settings
To configure security, you must select the Wireless Direct connection method. Follow these steps to configure the connection method using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
