HP OfficeJet Pro 8700 Printers - Loading Paper, Cards, and Envelopes

This document is for HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, 8725, 8728, 8730, 8732M, 8740, and 8745 All-in-One printers.

You can print on plain or specialty paper. Load plain paper, legal size paper, envelopes, index cards, or photo paper in the printer input tray.

Load plain paper in the input tray

Load plain paper into the input tray before you print.

Pull out the input tray.

Slide out the paper-width and paper-length guides as far as possible.

Make sure the platen is in place by pressing down on the front of the input tray.

Grasp a stack of plain white paper with both hands, and then tap the edges against a flat surface so all of the pages align.
Load the stack of paper into the input tray, and then push the stack into the tray until it stops.

Make sure the stack of paper is aligned with the appropriate paper size lines on the bottom of the input tray. Do not load more than 250 sheets of paper or exceed maximum stack height.

caution:
Do not load paper while the printer is printing.
Slide in the paper-width and paper-length guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.

Do not push in the guides so tightly that they bind against the paper.

Insert the input tray into the printer.

note:
After loading paper, make sure to select the correct paper size and paper type settings when printing or copying.

Load envelopes into the input tray before you print.

Pull out the input tray.

Slide out the paper-width guides as far as possible.
Remove all the paper from the input tray, and then load envelopes with the print-side down. Determine which type of envelope you have, and then position the envelopes as shown.

Make sure the stack of envelopes is aligned with the appropriate paper size lines on the bottom of the input tray. Do not load more than 30 envelopes at a time or exceed maximum stack height.

caution:
Do not load envelopes while the printer is printing.
Slide in the paper-width guides until they rest against the stack of envelopes.

Do not push in the guides so tightly that they bind against the envelopes.

Insert the input tray into the printer.

note:
After loading envelopes, make sure to select the correct paper size and paper type settings when printing or copying.

Load photo paper or cards into the input tray before you print.

Pull out the input tray.

Slide out the paper-width guides as far as possible.
Insert the stack of paper or cards print side down in portrait orientation, and then load the stack in the center of the input tray.

Make sure the stack of paper or cards is aligned. Do not load more than 50 cards/photos or exceed maximum stack height.

Do not load paper while the printer is printing.
Slide in the paper-width guides until they rest against the stack.

Do not push in the guides so tightly that they bind against the paper or cards.
