HP LaserJet Enterprise M604, M605, M606 - Install the optional 1,500-sheet high-capacity input (HCI) tray

Install the optional 1,500-sheet high-capacity input (HCI) tray

This document provides the procedure to install the 1,500-sheet high-capacity input (HCI) tray for the HP LaserJet Enterprise M604, M605, M606 models.

  1. Remove the tape from the outside of the HCI tray.

  2. Press the release button and open the door on the front of the HCI tray.

  3. Remove the tape from inside the door.

  4. Remove the shipping lock from the bottom interior of the tray.

  5. Remove the tray number cube from the inside of the door on the HCI.

  6. Turn the cube so that it displays the correct tray number, and then insert the cube so the correct number faces outward on the tray.

  7. Close the door on the HCI tray.

  8. Press the Power button to turn off the printer.

  9. Disconnect the power cable. Also, disconnect the USB or network cable (not shown).

  10. Use one of the following procedures (depending on the tray configuration) to place the printer on the optional tray(s):
    • 1,500-sheet high-capacity input (HCI) tray:
      1. Place the printer on the 1,500-sheet HCI tray. Use the alignment pins on top of the tray to position the printer.
          caution:
        HP recommends that two people move the printer.

      2. Lock the HCI tray.

    • 500-sheet tray and the 1,500-sheet high-capacity input (HCI) tray:
      1. Unlock the 500-sheet tray.

      2. Lift the printer off of the 500-sheet tray.
          caution:
        HP recommends that two people move the printer.

      3. Place the 500-sheet tray on top of the 1,500-sheet HCI tray. Use the alignment pins to position the tray. Lock the 1,500-sheet tray.

      4. Place the printer on top of the trays. Use the alignment pins on top of the top tray to position the printer. Lock the tray.
          caution:
        HP recommends that two people move the printer.

  11. Press the release button and open the door on the front of the HCI tray.

  12. Press the paper guides along the lower front interior of the tray and slide them to the correct paper size.

  13. Load a stack of paper into the HCI tray. To prevent jams, load complete reams at one time. Do not divide reams into smaller sections.

  14. Make sure that the stack of paper does not exceed the fill-marks on the paper guides, and that the front edge of the stack is aligned with the arrows.

  15. Close the door on the HCI tray.

  16. Reconnect the power cable and the USB or network cable.

  17. Press the Power button to turn on the printer.

  18. OS X: The list of installed options should automatically update during the first print job after installing the accessory. If not, perform the following steps:
    1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
    2. Select Print & Scan (or Printers & Scanners).
    3. Select the printer, select Options & Supplies, and then select Driver.
    4. Manually configure the accessory.
    Windows 8.0 and 8.1: When attaching the accessory after installing the printer software, perform the following steps:
    1. Scroll to the bottom-left corner of the screen, and right-click the window that displays.
    2. Select Control Panel. Under Hardware and Sound, select View devices and printers.
    3. Right-click the name of the printer, and then select Printer Properties.
    4. Click the Device Settings tab.
    5. Click the Installable Options section, if Automatic Configuration is present, select Update Now. If the Automatic Configuration option is not present, manually install the accessory by opening the appropriate category and selecting the accessory.
    Windows XP, Windows Vista® and Windows 7: When attaching the accessory after installing the printer software, perform the following steps:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to the computer or network.
    2. Open the Windows Start menu, and then click Devices and Printers (or Printers and Faxes for XP).
    3. Right-click the name of the printer, and select Printer Properties (or Properties for XP).
    4. Click the Device Settings tab.
    5. Click the Installable Options section.
    6. In the drop-down box next to Automatic Configuration, select Update Now.
