DESCRIPTION
Serial devices and powered USB (PUSB) peripherals may not function after being hot plugged (connecting or disconnecting while the system is powered on) because the necessary device drivers may not load and, more importantly, because hot plugging serial and PUSB devices can potentially damage any or all of:
  • the serial port hardware
  • serial devices
  • the system board
  • PUSB devices

RESOLUTION
To ensure that serial and PUSB device drivers load and to avoid hardware damage, power the system off before connecting or disconnecting serial and PUSB devices. Hot plugging peripherals is not supported and doing so can cause permanent hardware damage. A caution label is visible on the back of the units (see Figure 1 and Figure 2 examples).
NOTE: Damage caused by hot plugging serial devices is not covered by your HP warranty.
