HP Color LaserJet CM1312, CM2320, HP LaserJet M1522, M2727 MFP - Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Specific Copy Quality Issues

Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Copy Quality Issues

Copies Skewed
Check for the following:
  1. Verify the original document isn’t skewed.
  2. Make a print from either the computer or a test page from the front panel of the printer. Verify that the printer isn’t making skewed copies.
  3. Verify that the input stack of paper isn’t above the paper guides on the input tray.
  4. Verify that the paper is all of the same size.
  5. Verify that the guides are snug against the edges of the paper and aren’t being pushed apart when the paper is pulled through the ADF.
  6. If the copies are still skewed, contact HP Support.
Original Being Damaged Feeding Through ADF
  1. Verify that the original is the proper weight of paper (16 – 43lb).
  2. Verify that the original has sharp, unfolded edges. Torn edges will not feed properly.
  3. Lift the ADF cover and verify that no paper is jammed in the ADF mechanism.
  4. If the original is still being damaged, contact HP Support.
Copies Have Lines Running the Length of the Page
Open the scanner lid and clean both the large and small piece of glass with a suitable glass cleaner and lint-free cloth.
  1. ADF lines come from contamination on the small piece of glass. Sometimes the contamination is visible and may require some scrubbing to remove. Many times the contamination isn’t visible to the human eye but requires removal just the same. Sometimes the contamination is hard and needs to be picked off (be careful not to scratch the glass).
  2. The location of the contamination can be determined by placing the copy next to the glass and observing where the line points.
  3. Verify that there are no scratches or nicks on the small glass window under the ADF, see the Figure below.
  4. If lines are still seen, make a copy from the flatbed. If the flatbed copy also has lines, force a scanner calibration by power cycling the printer.
  5. If nicks or scratches are seen or if cleaning doesn’t solve the problem, contact HP Support.
Copies are Blank
  1. Verify that copies are being fed with the information to be copied facing upward in the input tray.
  2. Lift the scanner lid and verify that no paper is remaining on the glass.
  3. If none of these fix the issue, contact HP Support.
