The Attention Light Blinks (Paper Jam) for HP LaserJet Pro CP1025 and CP1025nw Color Printers

Issue

The Attention light (

) on the control panel blinks. The Ready light might also blink. Paper is jammed in the product.

Paper jams can occur in multiple locations in the product.

Experiencing frequent or recurring paper jams?

The following recommendations can help prevent recurring paper jams in your HP product.

Do not overfill the input tray.
When you load new paper in the input tray, remove any paper that is already in the input tray, tap the stack of new paper on a flat surface to align the edges, and then load the new paper.
Adjust the paper width and length guides snugly against the paper.
Make sure that the input tray is securely in place.
Do not add or remove paper to or from the input tray while the product is printing.
Do not fan the paper before loading. Fanning causes static electricity, which makes the pages stick together.
Use only HP-recommended paper types and sizes.
Do not let paper stack up in the output tray. The paper type and the amount of toner used affect the output tray capacity.
Do not open the print cartridge door during a print job.
Make sure that the power cord is firmly connected to both the product and the power supply.
Do not print on paper that is damaged or has foreign objects attached to it, such as staples or paper clips.
Store the paper flat in its moisture proof wrapping in an environment that is not too humid or too dry.

IMPORTANT: You must follow these solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue.

Solution one: Clear the jam, reload paper, and then print a self-test report

note:
Loose toner might remain in the product after a jam. This problem typically resolves itself after the product prints a few sheets.

caution:
Paper jams might result in loose toner on the page. If you get any toner on your clothes, wash them in cold water. Hot water permanently sets the toner into the fabric.

Do not use sharp objects, such as tweezers or needle-nose pliers, to remove jams. Damage caused by sharp objects is not covered by the warranty.

When you remove jammed paper, pull it straight out of the product. Pulling jammed paper out at an angle can damage the product.

Step one: Remove any loose paper first

Remove all loose paper from the input tray and the output tray.

caution:
Do not try to remove jammed paper at this stage.

Step two: Clear the jam from the output tray

Follow these steps to clear the paper jam.

With both hands, grasp the jammed paper where it is most visible, including the middle, and then carefully pull the paper straight out of the output tray.

Turn the product around, and then open the rear door.

Step four: Clear the jam from the input tray

With both hands, grasp the jammed paper where it is most visible, and then carefully pull the paper straight out of the input tray.

Step five: Reset the product

Open and close the print cartridge door to reset the product.

Step six: Reload plain paper

Slide the paper length and width guides to their outermost positions.
Load plain white paper in the input tray. Slide the paper forward until it stops.

note:
Do not overload the tray. Make sure that the stack of paper fits within the tray and is no higher than the top of the guides.
Slide the paper length and width guides inward until they stop at the edges of the paper.

Step seven: Print a self-test report

Printing a self-test report verifies if the hardware functions correctly.

Make sure that the product is idle and the Ready light () is on.
Press and hold the Resume button () for two to three seconds, and then release the button. The product prints a self-test report and a supplies status page.

If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Check for any torn paper, debris, or foreign objects in the cartridge area

Check for and remove any torn pieces of paper, debris, or foreign objects that are accessible from the print cartridge area.

You need a flashlight to complete some of these steps.

Close the print cartridge and rear doors, if they are not already closed.
On the control panel, press the Print Cartridge button that corresponds to the print cartridge you want to replace.

The printer makes noises while the toner cartridge carousel rotates.

Wait until the Print Cartridge light stops flashing and the rotation sounds stop before you proceed to the next step.
Open the print cartridge door.

Grasp the handle on the print cartridge, and then pull the print cartridge straight out to remove it. Set the print cartridge aside.

Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord from the wall socket or power strip.

warning:
You must disconnect the power cord before reaching inside the printer to avoid risk of injuries or electric shock.
Use a flashlight to thoroughly check for any torn pieces of paper, debris, or foreign objects that might remain inside the printer. If any torn pieces of paper or foreign objects remain inside the printer, more jams are likely to occur.
Grasp the print cartridge by the center handle, and then insert the print cartridge into the correct slot. Make sure the color label on the print cartridge matches the color label in the carousel slot.

Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet or power strip, and then turn on the printer.
Try to print again.

If the error persists, continue to the next step to reset the printer.

Follow these steps to perform a power reset, check the print settings, and print a self-test report.

Step one: Perform a power reset

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
Turn the printer on.

Step two: Check the print settings

From the File menu in the software program, click Print.
In the Print dialog box, click Properties.
Check the settings on the Paper/Quality tab, change them if necessary, and then click OK.
Try printing again.

Step three: Print a self-test report

Printing a self-test report verifies if the hardware functions correctly.

How to print a self-test report

Make sure that the product is idle and the Ready light () is on.
Press and hold the Resume button () for two to three seconds, and then release the button. The product prints a self-test report and a supplies status page.

If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution four: Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.

To confirm your warranty status, go to HP Product Warranty Check. Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty products.
