This document describes how to set up the scanner hardware.
Setting up the scanner hardware
Step one: Unpack the scanner hardware
  1. Remove the scanner hardware from the box.
  2. Remove any shipping tape from the scanner.
Step two: Install the software
  caution:
If you are installing the scanner on a Windows computer, do not connect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable to the computer yet. Install the scanning software before connecting the USB cable.
  1. Close all of the programs that are running on the computer.
  2. Insert the HP Photosmart CD into the CD-ROM drive on the computer. There is a separate CD for Windows and Macintosh installations. The installation dialog box displays.
      note:
Windows: If the installation dialog box does not display, click Start and then click Run. In the Open text field, type D:\setup.exe where D: is the letter of the CD-ROM drive. Click OK.
  3. Install the scanning software.
    • Windows: Click Install Software.
    • Macintosh: Double-click the CD icon and then double-click the Install icon.
  4. Follow the instructions that display on the screen to complete the software installation.
Step three: Connect the automatic document feeder and transparent material adapter
  1. Hold the automatic document feeder/transparent material adapter (ADF/TMA) unit in the open position. Align the hinge posts on the ADF/TMA with the sockets on the scanner and then gently lower the ADF/TMA onto the scanner. The two hinge posts on the ADF/TMA fit in the sockets on the scanner.
  2. Lower the ADF/TMA to the closed position.
  3. Connect the accessory cable on the back of the ADF/TMA to the port on the back of the scanner. Turn the thumbscrews on the connector until they are tight.
